Hello Are you sure the laser lens is clean? if not get a CD player cleaning kit from Walmart and clean the laser lens first. The kit is really easy to use read and follow the kits instructions. Also make sure the CDs are clean and not poor copies of the original. Thanks for using Fixya.
It's unlikely that you're doing something wrong. Did you buy this DVD player as one that is supposed to support connecting hard drives? If not, then the player probably doesn't support connecting a hard drive.
Try www.ebay.com type make and model of player and scroll through the list, also check www.whafedale.com contact customer support and the technical department.
It appears this stereo is compatible with a limited number of mp3 players. I had the same problem with my Ford Edge Sync option. See if you can get a list of compatible players from the manufacturer/ dealer. If not, try different mp3 players until you find one that works reliably and purchase one.
