What you can do since there aren't any schematics available, would be to measure the 1 half and write down the resistance and do the same with the other half and add them together. You should go up a little also, say if you are reading 1 k ohm, use a 1.2k ohm in it's place. The other way is to follow it upstream to see what the resistor is supporting. If it's an I.C. you could look up the I.C. number and go to website to see what resistor is required to support that I.C.

You haven't mentioned anything about your Sony TVs model number. Yet I'm answering to you, considering it as a general problem for Sony.
Your set's vertical output section has the trouble. Normally Sony uses a 9 pin Ic for this section for their 20 tvs, starting with LA' Series. This is a small IC vertically mounted on the circuit board,and screwed on to a heatsink plate. Just replace the capacitors around it first. Most of the electrolytic capacitors will go reduce in its capacitance value with time. Check the input voltage to that IC also. This input voltage is usually derived from the Line Output Transforemer's [LOT], secondary winding, and come upto 28VDC or so. If this voltage is very low, the retifier diode connected to the respective winding of the LOT may faulty. Replace it with same type and number.
When replacing electrolytic capacitors, keep a keen look on its polarity,as tthey ahve both positve and negative terminals, and should be coincide with the printed circuti board. otherwis it will burst off when supply is charged.
Replace all of them including the majn smoothing capacitor to the IC voltage. If these does not help, replace the vertical output IC. It will not cost too much. OK.

Your TVs vertical output section has the fault. You just open your TV after disconnecting it from the AC mains wall socket, and locate the vertical output section. This section uses an Ic marked as part [IC 401] on the board and its number is LA7840. Just look for any loose soderings around its components legs, and the solderings at the IC legs, which has 7 of them. The IC stated above will be screwed onto a heatsink to radiate heat out of it when it works.
If all soldering point are fine, come towards the IC legs and measure the voltages at each leg. The voltages must be
pin 1= Ground
pin 2= 12.6
pin 3= 24.7
pin 4= 4.4
pin 5= 4.4
pin 6= 24v [vcc]
pin 7= 1.8
All voltages stated above are DC voltages with respect to ground. If any of this voltage is missing, find out the reason for that. If all of them are noted abnormal, IC may be defective, and replace it.
[vcc] stands for main input voltage to the IC.

Your TVs vertical output Ic may be damaged. You just open your TV and locate the vertical section inside, usually panasonic uses Ic numbered [LA7837] which will be marked as part number IC451 on the circuit board. It is a 13 pin Ic, sometimes the number may be different in your TV, as Panasonic uses four types of LA series Ics in their sets. I think that you have some knowledge in the service field, so the complaint states only "loss of vertical sweep", and so I'm not going too deep into description. OK.

Check resistors in the small PCB connected to picture tube. Check picture tube grid voltages. Check brightness control swing on the IC out put. Note down the IC no and search in the Google for pin configuration.
