Does it cycle i.e. fill, wash, rinse, and drain?

If yes, then heater relay likely has failed (closed).

What model number?

I have the same problem and actually found a workaround by mistake you may try as a temporary solution (if that works for you):

- press and hold the lock button for a couple of seconds
(the delay timer would increase by 1 hour)
- press and hold the lock button again
- repeat until it reaches 9hrs
- repeat one more time: the control panel should be functionnal again.

Let me know if that worked for you!

Typical H2O heater with 4500 watt elements should draw around 18 amps. Check to make sure the connections for the wires at the breaker are tight, loose connections will cause the breaker to heat up. If all of this is good and the breaker is still heating up, it is time for a new breaker.

The heater relay is located on the control board, a faulty relay or a faulty control board would cause the problem you have described. The fix is to replace the control board. Parts for your unit should be available from most appliance parts retailers, if there is not one local to you, the part is available at www.apliancepartspro.com. along with an exploded view of your unit

Hope this helps.

The GE GSD5500 has a check valve in the rear of the unit under the FILTER FRAME that screws in. GE part WD24X10018.
The white rubber stopper wears out and lets water return to the tub!
Remove filter frame (4 screws) and unscrew the check valve to replace. Try appliancepartspros.com for part # AP2617344.

Why does my dishwasher heating element turn on whenever I close the door--even when it is not running?

your timer is toast. this will repeat until you replace it or unhook the element, so don't use it until repaired. you should unhook from power as this is a very big fire hazzard

Dishwasher heating element won't turn off

Hello niki4god - I recommend resetting the dishwasher by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. It is important to wait approximately ten minutes and then turn on the unit. An experienced service technician may need to further evaluate this issue if it was not resolved with the power reset. In this case, your unit may possibly be experiencing a communication problem with the control board or a potential wiring failure.

Sounds like the timer assembly must have stuck on the dry cycle. I'd call a tech before you have a fire.

Hi

The issue is with the heating element of your dishwasher, it is withdrawing very large amount of power and thus, the circuit gets overloaded and circuit breaker trips. You'll need to check for any short circuits around the heater element. And, also the resistance of the heater element, it should be around 1.4K ohms to 1.8K ohms.

Please do rate the solution as FixYa and Revert for further assistance.

Dishwasher will not start

turn unit off at the breaker and leave off for 10 mins before turning back on,  if this does not reset the unit, then your control board is probably bad or the heating element could be going bad.  call a repair man for service
