When connected to Gmail on your smart phone, set up a secondary email address. This is an email address that Gmail can use when you have a problem with your primary Gmail address.

After setting up the secondary email address, try to connect to your primary Gmail address using your laptop.

After you receive a message that you are locked out, there will be an option for Gmail to send you an "unlock" link in an email to the secondary email address.

Access this email using your laptop and click the link. You will then be able to access your primary Gmail account using the laptop.

Recover a Forgotten Gmail Password

To reset your forgotten Gmail password:

• Make sure you either
  • have a secondary email address specified for your Gmail account or
  • you have not logged into your Gmail account for 5 days.
• Follow the Can't access your account? link from the Gmail log-in page.
• Make sure I forgot my password is selected.
• Type your full Gmail email address under Email address.

Change your username If you use Gmail with your Google Account, it's not currently possible to change your Gmail username after you've registered unless you want to delete Gmail from your account and use a different, non-Gmail address for your Google Account. If you don't use Gmail with your Google Account, you can change your account username to another email address at any time. Your username is the full email address you used to create your account.
To change the email address on your account, just follow these steps:

1. Visit the Google Accounts homepage.

5. Click Save email address.

Once you've saved the change, you should receive a verification message at the email address you just entered. To complete the change, you'll need to click the verification link in this message. You should also receive a message at your old email address confirming that we've registered the change to your account. Note:

• You can't change the email address on your account to an existing Gmail address, but we invite you to add a new Gmail address to your Google Account.
• You can't change the email address on your account to an email address that's already associated with a Google Account.
• If you want to make your alternate email address the new primary address, you'll first need to delete your alternate email address from the account.
• The account username that you choose needs to be an active, valid email address that you can access.

  • Gmail may already have entered the secondary address you used when creating the Gmail account.
  • The alternative email address becomes your new Google account user name.
  • Make sure you enter an email address to which you have access. You need that access to complete deleting your Gmail account.
• Enter your Gmail password under Current password.
• Click REMOVE GMAIL.
• Open the "Gmail Removal Confirmation" email from "[email protected]" at the email address you specified as your new.
• Follow the deletion link in it.
• Type your Gmail password under Password:.
• Click Verify.
  • Keep in mind that you cannot undo this step.
