SOURCE: Salton Belgium Waffle Maker

I, too, was searching for that wonderful Belgian Waffle recipe and thought, no problem, I'll just look on-line. I couldn't believe it when Salton didn't have it posted on their site (if they did, I couldn't find it) and was taken to your requests for the recipe. So, I went the whole mile, or should I say traveled over mountains of files, and couldn't believe that my filing system still works after all of these years, the Salton Belgian Waffle Maker & Recipe Guide for Model No. WM-4 was right where it was supposed to be. (And my husband, and prior bosses I should add, have laughed at how I save and file everything. I'm glad I can share this with you all now...

Basic Belgian Waffle Recipe
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 cup milk
1 egg, separated
1/2 tbl butter, melted
-Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl
-Add egg yolk and milk to the dry ingredients and beat together thoroughly.
-Beat egg white until stiff, stir 1/4 into batter to lighten it and then gently fold in the remaining egg white.
-Pour a scant 1/2 cup of batter onto the heated waffle mold. The light should be off. When batter is added, the light will go on. When the light goes off again, the waffle is done.
-Makes about 6 waffles.

Chocolate Waffles ("which make great ice cream sandwiches," says the recipe book.)
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp sugar
2/3 cup milk
1 egg, separated
2 Tbl melted butter
1 1/2 squares semi-sweet chocolate (1 1/2 ounces)
3/4 tsp vanilla
-Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl
-Add milk, egg yolk, and vanilla to dry ingredients and beat until well blended.
-Melt butter and chocolate together in microwave or double boiler. Stir chocolate mixture into batter.
-Beat egg white until stiff, stir 1/4 into the batter to lighten it and then gently fold in the remaining egg white.
-Pour a scant 1/2 cup of batter onto the heated heart waffle mold. (Hmm, the WM-4 isn't shaped into a heart??? Oh well, moving onward...)
-Makes about 6 waffles

Serve sprinkled with powdered sugar or cinnamon or topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.

SOURCE: Repalcement plates for Model 270A Toastmaster Waffle Iron?

Actually I have a Toastmaster 270A waffle iron. It is much better quality than the later toastmaster models, and it is basically identical to the Black & Decker model G48TD, which is still sold. You could get plates from Black & Decker. The entire iron sells for $50.

SOURCE: waffle iron light goes on gut does not heat up...

The most common reason for not heating up is because of a blown thermal fuse. Apparently the controller lets the iron get too hot or the fuse is out of manufacturing tolerance - and so the fuse opens.
The green lamp is normally lit when the relay is off and dark when the relay is on. When cold, the relay normally turns on within a second of power-up (switched on). During power-up, the green (ready) lamp should flicker on, and then as the relay clicks, go dark. If the green (ready) lamp does not flicker, the fuse is probably blown.
The fuse is clamped inside the bottom clamshell in silicon tubing. A replacement fuse (240°C) can be purchased from many sources. The fuse should be re-attached to the wires with new all-metal crimp fasteners.
If the iron is getting too hot and blowing thermal fuses, you may be able to avoid this failure by keeping the thermostat set lower. (Turned a bit counter-clockwise.) If the waffles are no longer dark enough at the ready beep, you may have to use manual override by watching the steam and smelling the waffle.

How long do i keep the waffle batter in

Shortly after closing the waffle iron it will start to steam, Watch when the steam stops and open the iron. The waffle should be golden brown.
After you get the hang if it you can adjust the cooking time for lighter or darker waffles. There are videos on Youtube that may help too.

I am looking for a cord for a 1920s Royal Rochester waffle iron

It is probably impossible or next to impossible to find something like that... let alone the specific part being for sale. Therefore, I suggest you contact a local electrician. They will be able to make you a new one, very easily, and for not a lot of money. Good luck!

How to Select a Waffle Iron
1

Determine what type of cooking you'll be doing. If you're planning on preparing one waffle at a time, for example, then the smallest model of waffle iron will be the best fit for you. On the other hand, if you plan on frequent entertaining, or if you have a larger family, you'll probably want to choose a deluxe model.
2

Decide on the type of waffle maker that you'd like to own. There are a number of these available, ranging from simple differences---round versus square, for example. Some feature removable cooking elements that can be replaced with others, such as grilled sandwich attachments.

3

Take the varying grades of quality available in waffle makers into account when choosing one. This point may seem obvious---choose the highest quality waffle iron, right? Not necessarily. If you plan to use your waffle maker on rare occasions, say, once every couple of months, then you won't need the highest quality available. Waffle making several times monthly, however, will warrant a sturdier model with thicker non-stick coating applications applied to the cooking elements.
4

Consider the cleanup aspects of each waffle iron that you're comparing. Some waffle irons feature removable cooking elements; this is a tremendous benefit when cleanup time comes around, as it is much easier to clean the grill elements separately than attached to the entire waffle iron.
5

Take brand into account when making a decision. Brands with a reputation for high quality are usually more expensive than lesser-known labels. However, this doesn't mean that an "unknown" brand can't produce a good product. When taking this aspect into consideration keep in mind the requirements that you need and purchase a waffle iron accordingly. Additionally, many celebrity chefs have endorsed cooking products---including waffle irons---which adds a little more cost to the product. Finding the company's non-endorsed model of waffle iron will mean the same quality at less cost.

Cleaning your waffle iron WPLT4

c.gif c.gif

Let me start by telling you WHAT NOT TO DO.
  1. Never clean a waffle maker while it's still hot. Let it cool completely.

  2. Never dunk your entire waffle maker in water.

  3. Never use scouring pads, steel wool or abrasive cleansers.

  4. Never use a knife or pointed object to clean your waffle maker(I've actually seen that advised on less reputable sites).

When it comes to cleaning a waffle maker, your first source of information should always be the owner's manual. There are many different kinds of waffle makers, so your buddy Mr Breakfast will gladly defer his expertise to the company that makes your waffle maker.

What I can speak about is my own favorite waffle iron. It's a modern electric waffle iron with non-stick and non-removable baking plates. That's the same kind you have? Oh good. It looks like you came to the right guy.

Cleaning the baking plates:
  1. Remove any small puddles of oil with a dry paper towel.

  2. Brush away any crumbs with a soft-bristled kitchen brush or old toothbrush.

  3. Remove any batter stuck to the iron with a rubber spatula.

  4. To remove really-stuck-on batter, douse the baked-on batter with cooking oil. Wait 5 minutes for the batter to soften. Dab the batter off with a paper towel or cloth.

  5. To prevent staining and long-term oil build up, wipe down the baking plates with a damp cloth or paper towel.

  6. Make sure the waffle iron is completely dry before storing.

To clean the exterior, wipe down the housing and handle with a damp cloth.

Keeping it clean:

There are a couple things to remember to make sure our kind of waffle maker stays clean.

  1. Unless stated otherwise in the manufacturer's instructions, you should never coat the baking plates of a non-stick waffle iron with cooking spray. Over time that will give you a gummy build up that will turn your waffle maker to junk. Today, when a waffle maker makes the claim that it's non-stick, they really mean it. The only oil you need is the oil in the recipe. If your waffles are sticking, it's your batter that needs more oil, not your waffle maker.

  2. Unless stated otherwise in the manufacturer's instructions, don't use soap to clean your baking plates. Soap can be the enemy of a non-stick surface. Oil - on the other hand - can be a great friend. It creates a thin layer that helps maintain the non-stick surface. Soap will completely obliterate that layer of friendly oil. Harsh soaps can deteriorate the manufacturer's non-stick surface over time.
