If the microwave is dead, sometimes the ceramic 15 or 20 Amp fuse needs to be replaced along with a door microswitch that is bad or going bad and out of adjustment. There are several door microswitches that must run in a proper sequence or the ceramic fuse will be blown.
If the fan runs and the timer counts down only, it could be a bad door microswitch or a bad High Voltage rectifier. There could also be a loose connection in the high voltage wiring that would appear overheated. The magnetron could just be shot. WARNING microwaves produce high voltage and could be dangerous to work on. Care must be taken!
Does it still heat at all? There is a thermal fuse that trips if the iron gets too hot. The fuse can be purchased from DigiKey and others, but it is not easy to replace, and you need a multi-meter to check the fuse. I have repaired dozens of flat irons, not sure about that brand but they're all nearly the same.
Burner pot needs to be removed from heater, for hearers of this vintage, Best advice is to have the burner pot and heater serviced and replace ignition element at same time, I can do this, live in Adelaide. Probably cost $250 inc parts, test run, calibrate.
replace resistor. Resistor is somewhere along heater box. Has 4-5 wires coming out of it and is held into hearer box by 2 screws. Please let me know if you have questions.
A Heating coil breaking is very unusual, burn out yet, but actual breakage? That is due to excessive vibration (is there a ceramic support / insulator missing where break occurs?), an insulator that has become conductive (if the break occurs at a ceramic support) and is allowing the coil to partially short to chassis / ground. If your drum is off balance (for whatever reason) and causes a lot of vibration, it can cause the coil to resonate (vibrate) and cause a weak spot which ultimately fails.
Many people enjoy using Lp/gas grills for their ease of use and efficiency. Frustrations caused by flare ups and hot spots encourage the use of a wide variety of briquettes and other products. Ceramic briquettes are most commonly used because they provide an even heating surface and last for several uses.

});
Types
Gas grills most often use ceramic briquettes, lava rocks or, more recently, ceramic tiles in order to distribute heat. Ceramic briquettes come in the traditional shape, lava rocks are similar to those used in landscaping, and tiles only differ from briquettes by shape. Traditional charcoal briquettes can be used, though they maintain several disadvantages.
Use
Place briquettes, tiles, or lava rocks in a solid layer on a screen between the heating element and the grill surface, making sure to leave space for air to circulate. Light the grill and check to make sure that all areas of the heating element are covered, filling any empty spaces.
Advantages
Ceramic briquettes, tiles and lava rocks all serve the same purpose. The advantage comes from their ability to reduce flare-ups and hot spots. They can also be used several times, minimizing set-up and making cleaning easier. Traditional charcoal briquettes are cheap and easy to find. They also provide the smoky flavor associated with traditional charcoal barbecuing.
Disadvantages
Ceramic briquettes, tiles, and lava rocks are not as easy to find as traditional charcoal briquettes and are more expensive. Traditional charcoal briquettes do not repel run-off from food, but rather retain it, causing hot spots and flare ups. Charcoal briquettes also need to be replaced after each use and are harder to clean up.
Warnings
Any additional product placed inside a lp/gas grill should not come in contact with the heating element. Doing so can cause increased stress to the grill, as well as clog vital gas ports. Always maintain a clean grill. A buildup of old briquettes can cause inadequate performance.
NOTE: If the replacement igniter comes with a connector plug that does not match the one on your range, you will be instructed to cut the old connector plug off and splice the wires together using a set of ceramic wire lugs that are included in the replacement kit. DO NOT attempt to use standard wires lugs. They will melt due to the extreme heat in an oven. The ceramic lugs and the wires on the igniter are heat resistant.
If you have any questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
The replacement process is pretty standard with nearly all gas ranges. You can go to appliancepartspros.com for reference drawings to assist you as well. The oven burner assemblies are listed under the "Cavity" section.
If you have not purchased an igniter yet, the part number is AP4041245. If the connector plug does not match, there should be instructions that direct you to splice the wires using ceramic wire lugs. DO NOT use standard wire lugs. They will melt due to the high heat in the oven. The wires and connectors on these oven igniters are heat resistant. If ceramic lugs are not included with the igniter, you may have to purchase them separately. The part number is AP3440631.
This is a fairly simple repair, but if you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
