SOURCE: PDP42Z5TA remote intermittent. Installed new
I would just send in to the manufacturer or go buy a universal for the TV. Most remotes that come with TV are not that special. Less hassel to get a new one.
SOURCE: LIGHT BUTTON BROKEN
I had the same problem with two remotes. Replacements are either hard to find or very expensive, so with nothing to lose I opened it up. There's a circuit board inside, and the rubber buttons are all connected together in one grid or mat. Each button has a corresponding copper square on the circuit board. I immediately saw that the square for the light dimmer button had a dark smudge, presumably from the rubber button.
The smudge was easily cleaned with a q-tip and denatured alcohol. Put it back together, and the button works!
Note, there are two screws that hold the remote housing together, but just one was visible on my unit. The other is below the sticker (with the FCC info). I was able to access the screw by simply pressing the screwdriver through the sticker.

it is common for remotes to go out. you can by a replacment and follow instuctions on programing

Buttons like Clear or Enter may not always be 'active' depending on the activity that is currently enabled. For example, the fast forward button will appear not to work if you are just watching TV. Buttons are only mapped if they are used in a particular activity. That said, one would think that the 0 button should be available all the time, at least if there is a TV involved, so let's look at this. First, did the behavior of your remote change or have you just started using the remote? If this is an initital setup, ensure that you have selected the correct model numbers for your devices and that your setup configuration is correct in the Logitech software. Many problems have been resolved by going back to the software configuration and making sure that all of the devices and mappings are correct. Assuming the programming is correct and things were working properly at one time and no longer are then you need to determine if the issue is a physical problem with the button activation (key presses are not making contact), or a software problem (corrupted programming). So here are some things to look for:
When you press a key, do you see the 'transmit wave' icon appear at the top of the LCD screen? If so, then the remote is registering the key press. This means that the physical operation of the button is ok, so in this case, your issue is probably firmware/software related. You should update the remote's firmware and then re-load your settings. Both of these procedures are done using the Logitech software. If, after doing a refresh of your firmware/software, there is still a problem, you can try mapping some of the hard keys to 'soft' keys on the LCD screen. So, instead of using the "Guide" button, you have a "Guide" option on the screen. The link below will explain the process for re-mapping button functions.
