SOURCE: evaporator coil freezing, replaced main control

It is possible you have a defective fan motor in the condenser area or evaporator area. Sometimes when they become defective they will run for a while and just warm up and stop while the compressor continues to run. I learned that one on four costly returns to the home. The cost was to me not the customer. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Amana fridge model number Arb1914cw is not cooling. Freezer is working fine

Bottom freezer fridges are especially susceptible to
  1. Dust build up on the condenser coil that impedes heat transfer to the outside from inside the box
    • Remove the (bottom) footplate by grasping outside edges and pulling/levering out and popping it free.
    • Use vac crevice attachment and coil brush to clean away all dust from the coil and foot plate.
    • Replace plate and allow 24 hours for inside temp to stabilize.
    • Adjust top temp setting if needed to maintain safe temp level.
    • Repeat semianually or annually as scheduled maintenance--depending on the dustiness is fridge's location.
  2. Airflow blockage through the crispers and meat keepers.
    • Remove crispers and meat keeper as well as glass cover shelf.
    • Find cooling passages between crispers and at midline of meat keeper.
    • Remove any buildup of air blocking debris.
    • Wipe up fridge box floor beneath meat keeper.
    • Reinstall glass shelf, meat keeper, and crispers.
    • Check perodically for poor temperature/moisture keeping in crispers and for water pooling on fridge box floor as signs of blocked air flow through criispers and meat keepers.

Why does the freezer stay cold but not the refrigerator

Your evaporator coil which has the refrigerant in it may be frosted up, blocking the air flow over to the refrigerator, your condenser fan beneath, or on top of the fridge depending on the model, might not me turning, or your condenser might be dirty, (that's what the condenser fan is pulling air through) or the vent going from the freezer to the refrigerator may be blocked

MY GE ROOM AIR CONDITIONER AGH08AJG1 SWITCH BETWEEN COOL AND FAN EVERY 5 MINUTES APROXIMATELY NEVER SATYS COOLING UNTIL THE DESIRED TEMPERATURE IS REACHED

Check and clean the filter if found to be dirty. It is usually behind a decorative panel below the cold air output grates (when the cold air is on the top front).

steve_con_75.jpg
The filter is behind the large, rectangular, slotted front panel. The evaporator coil is behind the filter. The fan behind the evaporator pulls the room air through the filter and evaporator coil where it is cooled and dehumidified. It is then discharged through the grates on the top of the front.

Direct the airflow from the unit up and away or left / right to prevent the cool air from being drawn in the front of the unit (this is where the thermostat sensor is located). Use the highest fan speed to help force the air away from the intake, too. Inspect the condenser and evaporator coils (condenser is outside and evaporator is directly behind the filter. Clean if dirty or icing over. Be sure to install a filter if none was present. There are products made specifically for cleaning between the fins of the condenser and evaporator coils. Use them only as directed.

If these suggestions do not work, you may have a problem with the thermostat, refrigerant level, condenser or condenser fan.

Good luck!

Clean coil light is on

The coil they are referring to is the condenser coil, which will be located underneath, and can be accessed either by removing the toe plate in front, or by pulling the cabinet from the wall, removing the machine compartment cover by removing the screws. In both cases its best to use an appliance brush or lint brush available at any hardware store, these brushes are about 2' in length, and contain black plastic bristles, and of course, unplug your refrigerator before doing any maintenance. Remove the dust and pet hair from the condenser with the brush, then vacuum the brush clean and repeat.

There is a noise when the fridge seems to be working harder to cool the unit

This is a common problem that can occur in many refrigerators. If the condenser coils are dirty than it can affect the refrigeration process. The condenser coils are located at the very bottom of the refrigerator. They are black in appearance and made of metal. These coils attract lint and dirt and may be hot to the touch.
