Did you buy it like that>? locked out. or just happened one day.
did kids play with it, if it just happened.
we can't guess the full story, and matters on all security features.

must be a stolen PC.? as he refuses to answer simple questions. (history)
the smart card read is just for that to block anyone stealing PC from gaining access to it.

that is IT'S PURPOSE. !!
this has nothing to do with WINDOZ
it is BIOS feature, and if you cant get to BIOS
only the maker can help you.
HP.com
is the maker
they have forum and contact number, fixya is not HP.com FIXYA has no back door, security unlock methods or tools and are all IIllegall now.
good luck unlocking it, call HP.
HP designed, made it and sold it and SUPPORT IT.

that means your BIOS has this feature/option, mine does not.
and when you see that error it tells you , your BIOS has the lock feature, and in your BIOS you can turn it off. FOR SURE.

the free service manual covers this. lost that?
RTM read the manual, it's free 100% to read.

I've got a dc7800 Small Form Factor system. After less than a second, a blue window"smart card authentication" and below that, "smart card reader not present".

"System Options Not Set" normally means that the battery that maintains those options has gone dead. That's usually a 2025 coin cell on the motherboard.
I would replace that first thing, then set the BIOS options. Usually, there's another message that comes up, "Press F1 to continue, F10 for setup". F1 will let you system boot, most likely, but doesn't set the options. F10 (or whatever it says) will get you to where you can set the options.

Smart card reader not present

It's probably connected on one of internal USB branches. Try to plug it in another, if not work... there must be a device hardware error.

SMART CARD AUTHENTICATION no smart card reader found

I'm only guessing here, but did you set it up for Smart Card Authentication? If so I guess if the card reader hardware fails then so does Authentication unless replaced. Anyway I'm keen to hear the perfect solution for your Laptop problem.

My compaq NC6220 prompts me to insert smart card into smart card reader when booting.

The boot order is incorrect - it lists the card reader as the first option. Go into the BIOS (F10 during boot) and change that: put the CD_ROM first followed by the hard disk.

I have an HP Compaq nc8230 when I boot my laptop there will always insert smart card reader, I must first wait one hour then starts normally

Hi, once the computer is booted to windows successfully go to the "Device Manager" find the "Smart Card" Device and then right click on the device. Click on the "properties" and click on the "Drivers" tab. Then click "Disable" disable the Hardware. Click on "OK" and "APPLY". Restart the computer. This will resolve the issue.

It's a Weird Issue: You can try pressing the Notebook under the two "ALT" buttons(Don't press the 'ALT' buttons), this is required to be done whenever you are booting.

Hello, my hp compaq nc6220 gives insert smart card into reader

Pl switch the machine off and put 2-3 pounds of pressure with your palm on the keyboard closer to the spacebar.. this will fix it..
it is caused by the weakening of the adhesive of the wires below the keyboard.
Long term option - get the keyboard opened by the an professional and cleaned properly..and fixed back neatly...
