There is a series of easy steps to determine if the motherboard is bad ok?
1st unplug the machine for 30 min then after the 30 minutes is up press and hold the start button for 30 seconds this released any esd in the mother board and plug the machine back in then wait 5 min then press the start button and see if you hear any clicking sounds if not you have a pretty good chance there is a short in the motherboard other wise yes the unit will click and go into the settings you have
also what you can do is to press and hold the cancel button it should go into the drain/spin mode if it does let it do it then try to run the machine as normal after this ok?

only 2 things can cause this.
1 the control is set to lock out mode. just hold the lock button for 5 seconds and it should go back to normal mode.
or 2 the controls user interface has an internal failure. its the part that has the switches and tells the computer what to do. either way call whirlpool and see if its still covered by their warranty.
of yeah and the 3rd thing is you have no power to unit. make sure the outlet is good by trying something else in the same outlet, like a light or hairdryer.

SOURCE: clean light blinks 7 times continuously
If the clean light flashes 7 times, pauses, then repeats...
When
the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it stops
working and locks the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all
buttons are non responsive). It does this as a safety in case the
element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water.
To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...
-high temp wash
-heated dry
-high temp wash
-heated dry
...all
the
lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic
cycle. Let it go through the diagnostic to test the function of the
element.(1-2 minutes). When it finishes, open the door and touch the
element to see if it is hot (be careful, it can get pretty hot so wet
your fingers to avoid burns).
Once the diagnostic has cleared, you should be able to run the dishwasher as normal.
If
the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit
(ie. element, thermostat or wiring).
It rarely happens but it could
also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed
(slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door
when you close it).

its the power button its a common prob use a soldering iron and switch it with the load sinal button this happpens as the washer alallows moisture to get on the board as its not protected it will save u a ton of money and anyone can do it

display.
If the Starting procedure fails, push thePAUSE/CANCELtouch-pad,
then repeat the starting procedure.
Test Program Control
In order to advance to the next step of the test procedure, push
PREWASH OPTIONtouch-pad two times. IfPREWASH OPTIONis not
present on this model, pressEXTRA RINSEtwo times
