This may be SpeedStep slowing the processor to save battery life. It speeds up when it is needed.

  • Anonymous Dec 16, 2019

    overheated CPU #1 (2004 ) or battery low #2
speedstep on this Pentium M does work and is demand based but only on some OS , non stated.
2004 PC is XP and these rules

In Windows XP a user can regulate processor speed indirectly by changing power schemes. The "Home/Office Desk" setting disables SpeedStep, the "Portable/Laptop" power scheme enables SpeedStep, and the "Max Battery" uses SpeedStep to slow the processor to minimal power levels as the battery weakens.
even more confusing read this great work on

use "ALWAYS on" in power settings to know if ST is causing slow.

How do I adjust brightness on my Dell Latitude D6...

Look for a key labeled "Fn" (blue lettering) on the lower left side of the keyboard

Hold the "Fn" key and then use the Up/Down arrows to adjust brightness.

If that doesn't work, reboot your laptop and get into the BIOS. There is a screen for brightness. I don't recall how it is labeled, but it's one of the last pages as you cycle through the BIOS options.

I have a dell latitude D610 laptop that has a 1.73 processor and

Without a real comfort of electrical engineering, you can not replace the processor of a laptop. They are soldered directly onto the motherboard.

What you can try (and I do not reccomend) is to overclock your processor, ie: force it to run faster than it says it can (they are over engineered). Problems doing this can range from extremely hot processors to full irreversable malfunction of your laptop. ie: it will be broken forever.

Some sites says that your Dell D610 can not be overclocked, but if you google: overclock dell latitude D610 you can browse through the results.

Again, unless you are REALLY comfortable doing this and understand that it will most likely 1) void your warranty and 2) possibly destroy your laptop, then dont do it.

Power for battery on DELL laptop Latitude D610 as posted FixYa

In the BIOS, does it show the battery and it's current state? As weird as it sounds, I've fixed an issue like this on a D600 by updating the BIOS to the most current level. Weird, but true.

Slow speed, fan coming on loudly in Dell D800

Yeah the slowdown is the laptop throttling back due to overheating.

When you do processor-intensive work like - streaming videos - the laptop overheats. The fans come on loudly.

When the computer heats up despite the fans, the processor throttles back to relieve the heat.

When you reboot your machine, it stops performing intensive work, giving it a chance to cool down. It's not restarting that fixed the problem it's the fact that the laptop cooled down.

So here's what you do. Get an air duster and blow all the dust and gunk out from your fans. They are most likely clogged with dust and that's what's causing your cooling problems. If there are large dustballs in there, use a tweezers and pull them out. Get as much out as possible.
