Is it just with the EQ (or any other single component) in the link? Old equipment develops oxidation on various controls. Depending on physical access, tuner cleaner may help. Or take it to a shop.

I had the same problem with my sta-2600. After resoldering several joints with no luck I resoldered the connections of relay RL1 and cleaned its contacts. Worked fine afterward. Great to have this receiver back. Bought it new in 1987.
