SOURCE: Standby power usage of the 42" Vizio Gallevia?
According to a Cnet review of the 42" Vizio Gallevia, the standby power usage is only .75 watts. Because it is so low, I now have no concern about leaving the set in standby mode. Virtually no savings to be realized by unplugging the set between usage.

It sounds to me that the unit has a faulty inverter board which could be due to an overheated/bulged capacitor. I would send in a claim on it to the factory if it is still under warranty.
frankly having it posted as a Sony does not help. Aside from changing a board you did not need to change what other simple steps have you taken? Vizio model number?
Some of the simple things (if you can see Vizio logo and it stays set is on) does it work via a DVD player etc, does it have audio etc.
It is here up to each expert to choose if they want to answer a question or not, with wrong model etc many may have just passed on your question.
If you get the Vizio logo and or OSD let us know that, the more clues the better.
My reaction would not be power supply but maybe just maybe a main board.
I would of course try other signal sources first, remove a cable or sat box and the set from power to see if things change or not.
