FOUL TASTE OR SMELL IN ICE OR WATER FROM FRIDGE

Check ice and water filter: If equipped, the Ice and Water filter in your refrigerator is responsible for removing any debris or contaminants from your water that may still remain after local water treatment. Most filters contain and are made up of carbon and fabric filter. Over time, the filter may become restricted and reduce the water flow to the ice maker, causing a symptom of little or no ice. Most manufacturers recommend replacing the filter every 6 months but local water conditions may require that you replace more frequently. Lastly a clogged drain line can cause a foul smell and get into the ice and water as we,,.

SOURCE: Refrigerator Smell

Is the problem more in the freezer than the fridge section. If it is it is possible that on a defrost cycle the heaters which warm the coil may have warped and ar heating something they shouldnt. Another possibility is if there is something in the condensate tray (where the water collects) or something touching the compressor which runs very hot, or even the compressor relay if it is a 'plastic' smell. Smells are notoriously bad things to trace as engineers normally turn up when the smell is either gone or so faint as to not to detect. All I can suggest is trying to narrow the search area as much as you can and hopefully youll find it. Hope this is of some help.

Probably getting a new Fridge-mother doesn't want to continue to deal with repairs. Thanks anyway.

SOURCE: refrigerator smells strange

I may have found the problem. I pulled out the Fridge again. The odor was in the water pan.

What I found was that the cooling grills in the front was caked with dust. I vacumed this area but it was not until I got down with a flash light and saw this issue. I took a small duster that uses static to pull the dust out. There was a lot. I will see if the smell starts up again.

Bad smell from motor

Hello,

You need to remove any spoiled food from the refrigerator and clean the interiors with hot water added with baking soda. You need to clean the door seals and remove the breaker strips. Also check for unusual wet insulation.
Hope this work

Amana bottom freezer has a burning smell coming from the back of it. Fan is still working.

Is this burning smell occurring during a defrost? Something, like a food particle or wrappping, could be burning while in contact with the defrost heater. Is the burning smell coming from within the freezer? If it is coming from the outside and back of the box, unplug the box and investigate, or call a technician. You may want to call a technician, anyway? We don't need house fires.

Amana BX22A2W - freezer works, fridge not cooling

Same problem here with an Amana refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. I removed the back panels and vacuumed dust and cat hair out. The back panel in the freezer was frosted over with ice on the bottom. I removed the shelves and food and used a hairdryer to loosen the panel. The ice maker made it harder to remove the plastic panel so I pulled it back and saw the cooling fins frozen solid. I used the hairdryer to melt the ice and a shop vacuum to collect the water. It works like new again.
