SOURCE: Stuck Microwave door

The button assembly or the arm thats attached to the push button is broken. With the unit unplugged. Carfully take off the screws from the sides and around the back of the unit around the outside of the cover. Now once apart, DO NOT TOUCH any electrical parts. Look at the mechanism and see if you can see why the buttons not activating an arm to trigger the door latch. If you think you see why, Go to http://www.repairclinic.com and enter your model #.. Answer the questions and then a bunch of parts will come up. If they dont then get the tele # from there and call them. Depending on how old the oven is, you may want to consider a newer oven??. Good luck

SOURCE: Stuck Microwave door

In most cases this is due to a broken door opening lever or loose or broken door latch / hook parts. They can only be accessed and examined if the cover is removed from the microwave. In many over the range models, you can access the door parts by removing the control panel assembly. Sometimes you may be able to get it open by pushing up gently on the bottom of the door while pushing the button, in case you need to empty it.

SOURCE: My Microwave flickers and buzzes

This problem normaly happens when the door is not closed properly for a long time and flashing and buzzing starts to give user a indication for same. Allthough it is not risky as microwave oven has safty door switches wich does not allow oven to operate while door is open. Take care and close the door properly before you leave kitchen..

SOURCE: Whirlpool Microwave GT4175SPS0 - door

This model appears to be a counter top model (if not, please reply back, since procedure differs).

You will first need to unplug the unit and remove the outer cover.

Then you'll be able to see inside where the door open button presses on the release lever, which lifts up the hook-like projections (latches) on the door so that the door will open.

Usually the part that breaks is the release lever.

You can find helpful exploded views for similar models (such as the GT4185) here, but your best bet is to call the number at that site.

I'm guessing your model number is JVM1850- or JVM1860-series microwave.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one year guarantee. Details are here.

Recently the light flickers and gets dimmer, then back to normal, several times while heating something in the oven Just wondered if this is some simple thing to take care of, or should we consider...

Sounds like an arcing switch or connection, or maybe the light itself is not making a good connection. Check the plug in the outlet socket to see if it gets hot after heating something. Wiggle the cord to see if the light flickers. The door switch is a microswitch type and should make a positive 'click' when operated.

1800 XL JVM1860BD - won't work

It sounds like your controller may be failing. Or it could be an electrical line problem. Any other electrical itmes giving you trouble? Has anyone measured the voltage level of your power line? It should be around 110-125 volts AC. If it's significantly lower or higher, you may have a bad connection in your breaker panel or in the wiring leading to the home.
