There should be a water shut off either in the shower head or in the tap itself that is stuck open.. If it was working right the shower would not let water out when filling the tub.

SOURCE: Water runs out out both places for spout and shower head in tub!!

One of two issues. Either the shower valve was installed upside down or there is a twin ell ( Old School Diverter) Partially plugged. Odds are the valve is upside down.

SOURCE: shower/spout

The valve is installed upside down and needs to be reversed. There is a diverter in the valve that gives the spout priority. When the valve is upside down it gives the shower head priority. Thats why it runs without the diverter being activated. You will need to get in the wall from one side or the other. Cut the valve out and either flip the faucet Or change the direction of the diverter depending on the style of valve.

Does the tub spout water flow stop when the shower knob is pulled?

Was the systems pipping flushed before the shower head was installed?

It may be clogged, remove the shower head and then attempt to operate. If it is clogged you will see debris trapped in the screen at its connection point. The shower head can be disassembled - cleaned - reassembled

Is the shower head an adjustable type, that may be in the off position?

Good luck

My husband in stalled in shower vavle body. When bathtub is filling, water comes out shower head any ideas.

It's possible you installed the valve upside down, all values should be labeled in some way marking either hot and cold or it will say the word up where the riser tube port for the shower head is. If that's not the case remove the tub spout and check for any obstruction sometimes during tile or constructing debris can get into the pipe for your tub spout. Lastly the diverter on the tub spout could be bad. Try a new tub spout

Water leak thru valve when turn to shower

a lot of shower diverters do this..you may need a bigger seal on the diverter..if you can remove the spout assembly from the tub(with the diverter valve in it) and take it all to the hardware store.. see if they have a different seal/diverter that has a snugger fit but still falls to drain the shower head line out..that will slow that leakage..the spout is on a pipe and unscrews counter clockwise(normally)unless its a single valve unit..with the wide ring around the back..then that calls for a plumber..

When i'm filling the tub with water, the water back feeds up to the shower head and sprays out. I changed the spout and also moved the shower knob to make sure it wasn't stuck in the up position for the...

You will have water coming out of the shower head when you have really good water pressure. There might be more water volume coming out through the valve then what the tub spout can handle and in turn sends the water up to your shower head. When you fill your tub try turning the water only half way on not at full pressure, does this keep the water from coming out of the shower head? Most likely your valve has a 3/4" supply line while your shower head and tub have only a 1/2" supply line. Sounds like you have more volume to the valve than what the tub spout can handle. You might consider one of two things: 1) you can put a water regulator on the main supply line going into the house to lower your pressure, or 2) change out the supply line to the tub spout, increasing it from 1/2" to 3/4". Let me know whats going on.

Shower head leaks water when water is turned on

take out the cartridge from the fixture and make sure it has all of the "O" rings and stoppers.
look at the instruction again, make sue you are installing it the right side up. if all that, the shower still leak, then you need to talk to the place you brought the fixture, it may have a defective cartridge.
