My son recently changed hinges on our oven and the door closes perfectly but the door won't stay open when I need to take something out of the oven. Seems like springs are too "strong" for the door.

The hinges should have an adjustable screw to adjust the tension. You will have to use a screwdriver and adjust it.

SOURCE: oven door does not close

I had the same problem. The first time the Tech. came out, put a new hinge in and it held until Nov. 07. ( 8 months ). Then the left hinge brakes when I opend the door and it crashes to the floor. Bending the right hinge and the metal doorliner. Jan.7,08 everything was fixed. On 1/11 after no more then 10 openings & closings the hinge broke again. This time I heard the crack of the braking metal after opening the door 2 inches. It now sits in my kitchen propped-up with a stick, waiting for the repairman. I am sorry I have no solution , but there must be a problem with the hinges. I forgot to tell you that it started with a door that did not close, like yours.

SOURCE: How do get access to the door hinge of my Maytag CWE4800ACB oven

In first, excuse my poor english if i make some mistake.

I hare repair the same problem. part broken in left side and the door fall.
You have to pull out the oven from the wall, use some objet to support the oven, small table or plastic box if you dont want to put down completely.

You have to unsecure the electric wire connection in back if you whant to pull out enough for remove the left cover. You have to remove some parts in front for acces to screws on the side cabinet.

In my case the hinge was broken, i have soldered and fix again.
If hard to replace the spring in the mecanism, you better to do this on the bench before put all in the side of the oven.

I think the maytag oven have the same problem.
Other problem also is the timer alarm sound in the night went you sleeping, prob whit switch sensitif pc board. Now i turn off the breaker in the back of oven all night, and i sleep good.

Bye..

SOURCE: oven door not closing properly

If it is a drop down door with hinges on the bootom of the oven door, then it is likely to be weak door hinge springs, the usual solution is to replace both hinges.
If it is a swing open door, then the problem is related to a worn or broken door catch, or worn striker pin.

How do I remove oven door

open the oven door all the way and look down at the hinges. there is a little locking clip that you swing into position that locks the hinge from closing. it might be stiff and need some cleaning depending on how old and dirty your oven is. Also you might have to push down on the oven door to make the hinge open fully to get the locking tabs into place. making shore that the locking clips stay in place and hold open the hinge as you lift the oven door slowly towards its closing position and you will see the whole hinge lift up from inside the oven cabinet and the door will just lift out. be careful not to catch your fingers. make sure the looking tabs stay in place during removal as the hinge is very hard to get back into this position again. re fitting is the reversal making sure that you have pushed the base of the door all the way back into the cabinet and push down on the as to open it to release the tabs.

Oven door won't stay closed, light on

If the door opens past the 90 degree level position, it means you need new door hinges.

My Wolrd Pool Double Oven Door will not close all

same problem, I tried to adjust the level and tip the oven back, but that didn't work either.
Two options exist, change the hinges, or close the door with a hammer handle between the door and oven. Place the handle down low by hinge, then push the door closed very firmly to pull the hinge outward a bit.

Oven door will not close completely stays open about 1/4 inch

Hinges may need to be replaced. Rule of thumb, if one is changed, change the other as well. Also try WD40 open and close continuously, it may be stuck. But you will eventually have to change the hinges. Good luck.

Oven door staying open about 1 inch

your going to have to replace both the door hinges, since they have been over extended past ninety degrees they are not able to close to ninety degrees. that is the only repair, i would also look closely at the inner door panel and make sure that is not "crowned" or bent from the force that might also need replacing
