a cd drive will not burn any discs what you need to burn a cd disc is a cdrw or a dvdrw

1.use original disc, bcz some brand drives not supported all the discs available in the market.
2.cheak with other disc,if any disc cant read ,then

* Open Your CPU system cabinet,then cheak the data cable and power cable of the Dvd/Cd Drive.(You may change the other power card in your system already had)

* change the data cable
3.if u still have the problem,then finaly replace the new drive.LG Dvd Drive is beswt one.because it can read all discs.

If you have never opened the console then it can be 3 things
1 Connection to the DVD drive has came loose
2 The laser Lens is bad
3 1 of the 2 motors in the drive could be bad.

If the disc will not spin then it would me a loose power connection to the dvd drive, or the motor that spins the disc is bad. All parts in the dvd drive can be changed. But never change the whole drive without takeing the board out of the old drive and put in the new drive. If you do then all it will be is a expensive paper weight. Because there is a security number in the motherboard that must match the one injected in the DVD drive. I repair these problems often with 99% success.

dont change the drive change the laser dhe drives are coded to each ps3 if that dosent work just change the hard drive whit the one that works

IF YOU HAVE WIDOWS VISTA, IT WILL WONT ALLOW TO MAKE COPIES, OR THE DISK YOU ARE BURNING IS RIGHT PROTECTED...IF THESE ARE NOT THE PROBLEMS CHECK YOUR BURNING SOFTWARE SETTINGS...OR LAST THING IS TO CHANGE YOUR DRIVE

Put some media into your MASS STORAGE DEVICE,
and DISC MANAGER will assign a drive-letter,
and will let you change it.

I see this as one of 2 possible failures.

1. Optical drive failing. Take out the Hard drive, see if the recovery disk, or another bootable disk will boot. If no change, replace the optical drive.
2. Hard Drive failing. If the system will boot to a CD with the HDD out or if replacing the optical drive has no change, then the HDD is the next logical failure point.

Try different brand. Your Drive is a sensitive type and it only accepts some DVD-R brands. Also try DVD-RW disc. I had the same problem but not specifically the exact problem. My drive is cd writer only. Same problem, I just used diff CD-R brand like Imation and Philips and the burning works like a charm.
