SOURCE: scooter beep but wont run

Either your parking brake is engaged or if your scooter is more like mine i have a Rascal 600t it gives a code 5 service code when it thinks its in free wheel. The freewheel mechanism is located on the trans-axle which if you go outside across grass it gets wet. Th is device doesn't like moister and will get stiff will partially engage or disengage. In that mechanism there is a micro-switch which if the lever when slipped into the engaged position doesn't go all the way to the seated position the switch will see the mechanism as being disengaged [in free wheel] and will inhibit the motor from running. I lubricate the entire assembly with pure silicon spray oil,WARNING, do not use WD-40, It will eat some plastics. After lubricating the lever should move smoothly. I have to lub my scooter about once a month in the winter.

Now if this doesn't work check the connector that are all the wires are connected. Disconnect the connector check the pins are ok reconnect check to see if your still getting the failure. If you are still getting this problem do continuity checks on the wiring. You will need a multimeter only $9
http://www.amazon.com/Mastech-YG188-Pocket-size-analog-multimeter/dp/B00064CH6A/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1339024102&sr=1-8 Check the switch in the freewheel assembly. Select ohms the highest scale, short the leads together, zero the meter by turning the zero adjust knob. There is only one wire we are interested in. On some scooters you can visually see the switch and the wire running from it. The wire usually foes to a spade connector. Disconnect the spade connector put a probe on that connector leading to the switch. Disconnect the battery put other probe on the positive side of the terminals that were connected to the battery not to the battery it side.Work the switch does the meter needle deflect to zero, no, try the negative side. Does the meter deflect, no, put the probes directly on the switch terminals, does the switch.when worked now cause the meter to deflect, no, replace switch, yes, the problem is in the harness, don't panic, use can use that meter to trace the wire through the harness. Wiggling wires and flexing connectors usually makes the meter flick at some point. Thats how i do it i'm never without my trusty meter. Rascal are notorious for having problems of this type my mid-frame harness fell apart in the middle of a six lane intersection, the scooter simply locks up tight .I can do nothing but sit in the middle of this huge intersection. People try to move me but the scooters wheels are locked, my illness makes it so i can't communicate with people do it was a mess. So i modified the connector so its no longer a latch type connector. I drilled it for a quick pin which is much stronger than what its using now. Hope this helps

Pride Pathrider 140XL mobility scooter. Belongs to a friend, SOME TEENS TRIED STEALING IT AND THEY CUT WIRES AND PULLED PLUGS ETC FROM THE DASH AREA. IS THERE A WIRING DIAGRAM FOR THIS scooter please?

Question edited for clarity, add maker and fix typos.
Question moved from Cars and Trucks to Pride Mobility.
Please don't type in all CAPS, it is considered SHOUTING and is harder to read.

There is no service Manual and no wiring schematic. The manuals only show battery wiring.

This is for the Shoprider and it may be close enough

Scooter does not move either direction. when i insert the key i get 10 fast beeps and the 9 slower beeps

This scooter has an S drive controller. The beep code will begin with 10 very fast beeps followed by a number of slower beeps. The number of slower beeps indicates the actual code. It will do this only once. To repeat the beep code, remove and reinsert the key.
Beep code #9 is a possible controller trip.
Diagnosis:
The key may have been inserted during battery box installation.
The controller may be overheated.
The brake is dragging or pulling too much current.
Solution:
Remove the key from the key switch before installing the battery box.
If the problem persists shut down the scooter for 10-15 minutes and allow the controller to cool down.
Bottom line is that you may need a new controller or brake. Keep in mind these may be warranty items. A qualified technician may be needed to diagnose and repair the problem. Hope this helps.

When I turn the key on it beeps 10 times and then pauses and beeps 5 times. The manual says that the five beeps indicate the manual freewheel lever needs to be put in drive. I did exactly as the manual...

The beep code will begin with 10 very fast beeps, followed by 5 slower beeps. The 5 slower beeps is your actual code. The beep code 5 is a brake fault.
The scooter may be in freewheel mode or there may be a short in the brake.
Make sure the scooter is in drive mode with the rear brake lever in the correct position. If that does not clear the fault you need to check the electromagnetic brake.
To check the brake you need a digital voltmeter. The brake should read 30 to 65 ohms when you read across the pins. You need to measure the resistance at each successive point on the harness because there are 5 connectors. While you are inspecting these plugs, check for corrosion, loose pins, broken wires, and pins not making good contact. Disassemble the front and rear halves of the scooter when you do this.
If all the resistance checks are good up to the controller plug for the brake, you have a bad controller. With that being said, I usually see a bad connection at the multiple points in-between. Sometimes the wires for the brake will melt at the connector at the controller.
Inspect these areas visually, removing the rear cover of the brake/motor/transaxle and the controller. An experienced tech should charge you under 1 hour labor for the diagnosis. You may be able to save some money by checking the obvious areas for unplugged or bad connections first.
The brake will cost about $250, the interface wiring and connectors about $50 and the controller is about $500. For this reason, you should invest in a good tech to diagnose the problem first, before proceeding with any hit and miss do it yourself repairs.
Including a second visit to install the new parts, labor cost should not exceed 2 hours total.
This is a very popular model so you should be able to find an experienced tech in your area.
