Does it have a coal car?
If so squeeze the sides of the coal car and the top pops off.
If it's the blue one with plastic tracks then you have to squeeze the 2 center wheels. The rest,I believe, have screws that make it easier to locate a possible battery compartment.
Hope this helps.
If not I'll call my son...he owned them all. lol

SOURCE: dont know how to change the battery in Thomas Jet engine.

Hey. I was looking for the same thing and found this answer on yahoo answers:
"loosen the phillips-head screw on the underside front center of the jet engine train (you might not have noticed it - it is behind the coupling magnet assembly, which you can move to the side and also has an opening to access the screw) - once the screw is loosened, you can lift up the 'jet engine' from the base to access the battery enclosure"

How do I change the battery in a motorized wooden railway engin for thomas the train

2 options.

1.if its the kind that fits on the wooden track look for a screw (philips/star screwdriver) on the underside of Thomas near his face. The body shell should lift off.you will then see the battery.

2 If it's the plastic blue track you have to squeeze the right center wheel and left center wheel. Thomas has 6 wheels so the 2 center/middle wheels, after squeezing this will then make the top portion pop off.

I can't seem to figure out how to change the batteries in my talking salty trackmaster toy. I accidently got rid of the instructions

My son wanted this for Christmas but we went with a couple more affordable sets. he did get others though and they dont change batteries like most of the Thomas and friends. Flip him upside down, locate all screws...find one or two that have and arrow around the screw...those are the ones you take out to put the batteries in.

I have tried to change the battery in Thomas but this seems impossible! I think it is 2002 model. I bought it for my grandson at a car boot sale today and it is in lovely condition but the battery is

Take the wheel base of the train in one hand. Point the' face straight up. Place your other hand on the top with you index finger on Thomas' face. Push down towards the ground with the hand on the top, and then pull apart. There is a little tab on the back that you need to get over. Some times the first time is the hardest.
