Certain foods can cause this when their odor is circulated . Fish and onions for example . Sealing them in airtight containers and keeping an open box of baking soda helps some .

SOURCE: Ice from Ice maker smells

if the ice has been in the freezer ice bin for a couple of weeks or if you added any food to the freezer that is not totaly frozen before adding then the ice will absorbe the odor of the food added, also the defrost of the evaperator will also add to bad ice taste
a new filter for the ice maker is maybe needed, depending on how long it has been since it was changed
if it has been changed, youcan try this whirlpool tip
put a small pie pan in the freezer and one in the fresh food section
add 1/2 inch of fresh coffee not coffee grounds to each pan
leave in for 24 hrs
dump out coffee in the sink drain
repeat the process
dump coffee in 24 hrs
odor GONE

SOURCE: Bad ice taste/smell

It's not town water. It's something in the refrigerator. My unfiltered tap water tastes better than the Whirlpool channeled ice and water. Moreover, a Brita faucet filter does a wonderful job in removing all tastes from my unfiltered water. I change my Whirlpool filters as often as required.

SOURCE: Ice from ice maker does not taste right

Hi

Ice storage bin needs to be emptied and washed. Unsealed packages in the refrigerator and/or freezer compartments may be transmitting odors/tastes to the ice cubes.
Interior of the refrigerator may need cleaning.
Water chemicals. Installing an in-line filter can help with many odor/taste complaints.
An open box of baking soda in the refrigerator section can help with preventing the transmitting of food odors.
This is a common in-line water filter, they are fairly easy to install and usually come with instructions.

Even when your well or municipal water supply provides healthy, potable water to your ice maker, some impurities may remain. These can affect the smell or taste of the ice cubes, and therefore the beverages in which you serve them. A taste and odor water filter on the incoming water-supply line--such as our charcoal "Universal Replacement Water Filter"--can help a lot.

Also, over time, the ice cube bin can absorb difficult-to-remove odors from the freezer. Some manufactures recommend that you replace the bin every 2 to 3 years, whenever it seems to be retaining objectionable odors and transferring them to the ice cubes.

A Fixya Rating would be appreciated.

Thanks

SOURCE: ice maker is makeing bad tasting ice water supply

Change the supply line to the plastic tube line or copper. Do not use a braided plastic or metal braided line these will make the water taste bad. Changed mine to the plastic line and cured mine, no filters needed.

Bad fan blower smell and bad smelling and tasting ice cubes from ice cube maker

If unit has a water dispenser, how does water taste? I've run across bell peppers that will emit a bad smell. Keep in mind 95% of all refrigerators circulate air from freezer to refrigerator side and then back. It continues to circulate air so bad produce from refrigerator side will get into freezer side and ice will absorb smell. First, dump all ice. Then line shelves in refrigerator side with newspaper, that absorb smells. You can even try kitty litter in small cups in refrigerator side. Bell peppers gives off that metallic smell and can take some time to get out of unit. Highly unlikely a motor is bad and you've already changed outside water line.

Ice maker water taste like chlorine but tap tastes fine

Put a in-line water filter on the water line if you want. The taste is from the food and items you have in the refrigerator. Clean it out and keep your items in proper storage. Ice collects the smells in the line and the fridge. Change your ice that is sitting in the bin, wask out the bin with water and baking soda. Hope this helps.

Bad tasting water and ice from refridgerator.

i agree with rpbuice but in addition to flushing the water line you may need to replace the line then using the water dispencer run out about a gallon of water thru the door. this will clear the reservoir of bad tasting water. for the i/m throw out all of your ice then let it make a couple of batches and throw out that ice as well be sure to clean your ice bucket very good to remove any lingering tastes from the old ice.
fyi bad tasting water is generally from bad water supplies. good luck..
