The most likely repair is a blown fuse or circuit breaker, either to your mains plug, or in the microwave. Test by plugging it into a different circuit.
Beyond that, you would be looking at the power cord, then at the power supply circuit. If the clock is not at least displaying, you know it is probably not the controls. Go to Panasonic.com (or your local country equivalent) and click on Support, and you should be able to search for a user manual.

If the screen is showing a fault number or a number you havent seen before then its probably a program fault which can't be fixed. Check that the vent holes on the back of the oven aren't dirty and ensure that the whole oven is clean inside. Sadly it sounds like a program fault which cant usually be fixed by the owner though.
Finding a Panasonic oven repairer in the UK shouldnt be a problem though. My parents had a simlar problem wth their Panasonic Inverter oven, called the UK customer services and Panasonic contacted an authorised repairer in Scotland to visit them. Call customer services on 0844 844 3868.
If the call out charge exceeds £80 then you're probably better off buying a new oven.

You may have a sticky door switch. Try a simple "slamming" of the door, don't over do it, just a little harder than normal. This may help pop the plunger in the switch back up. The switch could have also become loose and moved out of its adjustment.
If this does not help, a technician should save you time and money with this sometimes perplexing problem.

If
the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback
signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will
stop the cook cycle.
It could possibly be as simple as a loose connection in that area. The repair shop your friend used may not have been Panasonic-authorized.
Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.
I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer.

The
first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a
minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.
If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour. Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.
You may instead have a failed keypad.
If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.
If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs, which depends on the exact model, one of these:
