There are no free maps update for the magellan roadmate 1412 car gps receiver. The only maps you can get are sold at cheap rates. The maps go for about $50. Anyone that says they can find you free maps online are just going to be toying with you.

• Call customer service of magellan if they have promo on going or log in to the website of www.Magella.com. Base on my knowledge the free update for magellan unit is a firmware update.

You can go to Magellan's website but I can assure you there are no map updates for free.
Try resetting the unit.
Turn it on and find the tiny hole marked reset - -then push and hold a paperclip in the hole until it resets. Try this 3 times if you want to clear it out and start with the maps it came with.

Go here - the official Magellan website and read until you see the word RESET - this is for your model.

• The only free update for your 4040 is the latest firmware or you can call the tech support of Magellan and ask if you can still avail the latest maps for your 4040 don't forget the recepit when you call them, they may ask you to send it to them for verification.
