Do you use windows 98? because win 98 cannot support wd 160.
2) the mother board bios may not support this drive, or the interphase of the ext usb drive is faulty. lastly try to remove the raw drive from the casing and use it directly with the pc . i feel it will start working well

It is being detected but I don't know how to put and listen to the music that I put on there

its not possible to "to listen to it from the drive". it is just storage, ao it will require another device. though in windows, you'll insert the usb, and make ur way to my computer, it will be listed as "western digital mass storage" along those lines.

on a mac it will display on the desktop.

I am trying to aquire a user manual for a wd25001032 can anybody please help me.

Try Western Digital's website.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Western Digital Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for manuals throughout the site.

The light for my 500 gb western digital is working but the motor is not spinning plus my computer can not access it

This hard disk is dead. You may be able to purchase another hard disk and insert it into the Western Digital USB adapter case.

My Western Digital USB 160 GB HDD when connected to my PC shows it detected external hdd but the disk is not displaying in MY Computer. I hope there is no problem with the USB port as my printer is...

In that case it's most likely that the hard disk inside has died. Last hope attempt: take it out of the case and plug it in directly to the motherboard. If even then it's not recognized then it's truly dead and all your data has been lost.

My pc does not permanently show western digital 160gb.it needs a hi-speed usb 2.0 controller.help me where to find the controller.

They're referring to the USB port built into the computer. Apparently your PC is older and has USB 1.1 ports? You can buy USB expansion cards, assuming it's a desktop not a laptop.

I cannot retrieve my files from the wd 250gb

First instinct is that your drive has failed. I would remove the drive and insert it into a system to test. If it works, then it is the housing from the external drive that failed. If the drive does not work once inside your system, then the drive is bad. Good luck.

Western Digital My Book freezes computer on boot up.

Mine boots fine if I unplug (better yet, hold the flat button down on the back for about 5 seconds, and it will turn off).
