Bernina 880 hand wheel stuck

I am unable to move the needle bar up and down with the hand wheel or automatically. The thread sensor light does not come on when threading the machine. I have the needle in the uppermost position, but it won't go down. The bobbin will not activate when the door is opened either.

SOURCE: Bernina 1090 Needle assembly stopped moving down

Hi,
There is a spring loaded catch on the needle bar assembly. It is designed to keep the needle bar from going up and down on command for basting. That way it can take fewer stitches while basting. Anyway, over time, with lint build up, use and not enough oiling, the needle bar clamp release can stick. It is located in the machine cover and hard to get at. It is located right at the point where the needle bar clamp (middle of needle bar) is. It looks pointed on top and about 3/8" tall and SHOULD be able to move front to back (as you are sitting at the machine. If you want to fix it your self, lay the machine on it's back to see up into the needle bar area, you can also see through the threading slot as well.to oil it with SEWING MACHINE oil (read not 3 n1 oil) and try to work it front to back until it breaks free and play with it until it springs back every time you push it. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Bernina Bernette 600 Deco embroidery machine

It could be that there is a loose piece of thread, or some fluff which is obstructing the tension gauge. Try blowing around the theading area (or even run the hoover pipe near it to see if you can **** it out). I cleared mine by folding a piece of non fluffy material and rubbing gently between the tension dial and machine.

Good luck

SOURCE: The needle thread will not pick up the bobbin thread

It looks right but its not. Try looking on the internet for threading instructions. The bobbin winds in two directions, I have never saw a Bernina but I have 2 new machines and the thread goes in and then threads back to the left. Its hard to describe. But if the bobbin isn't right it will not pick up the thread. Write to Bernina for instructions. There are websites that have the directions for free.

SOURCE: The bobbin thread is not

try a new needle
make sure the bobbin is not warped
make sure the bobbin case area is free of lint or loose thread
make sure you hold the upper thread tail while it's going down to pick up the bobbin thread
make sure there is a 2 to 4 in tail for the upper thread to grab

Bernina Bernette 66:Needle got stuck and does not move up nor down when using the wheel.

Force the handwheel in the direction of travel. You can't break it. Then remove the needle and bobbin and run the machine 15 seconds at full speed.

Why does my bernina activa cant pick up the bobbin thread

Is your needle in backward, are you using correct needles,
if so shut off machine, remove the pressed foot and needle plate, insert correct needle (size 90) select move needle to right hand position, , remove the bobbin case and open the shuttle cover, leaving the shuttle in place, lower the needle bar by rotating machine, after you have turned the hand wheel so that the needle reaches dead bottom, then continue to slowly rotate the hand wheel and determine if the eye of the needle is below the shuttle tip
as they intersect.
If so you can either take the machine to a qualified technician for correct timing. Or sit and cry a bit (lol)

hope this helps

Stitch selector knob on bernina 600, not Deco, is stuck and cannot select needle position, However the width of stitch part of the knob is working. This knob has 2 parts, needle position and width control

Your machine (Bernina 600 Record) has most likely frozen (seized) due to lack of regular maintenance. Don't panic. It can be fixed with a lot of elbow grease, good quality oil and a hairdryer. The following method has resurrected several Berninas I've picked up as "nonworking."

How can fix stuck needle bar on my Bernina 730

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

Bernina 180 needle bar won't move up and down

This could be the needle bar clutch. Turn off machine. Unplug machine. Remove needle. Turn hand wheel in normal rotation 1/4 turn. Gently move needle bar up and down by hand you should feel a click and the needle bar will not move up and down easily now. Restart machine and test. If it works all is good. This is a result of the machine requiring professional attention. If you use basting stitches it will likely unclutch again.

I have a Bernina Activa 130. I tried to sew over some leather, started fine, then the needle got stuck and I stopped right away. Now, the bottom threads keeps bunching. I have re-threaded the machine, new...

You need a fatter needle. The skinny needle will not open the leather enough for a smooth flow of thread and that's why the bobbin is bunching up when the top thread is sticking. Make it easier on your machine by using an appropriate size needle while sewing leather.

The hand wheel won't move. i tried to see if the feed dog was at fault and moved the lever back and forth and now the feed dog is stuck in the down position - and the hand wheel won't move

Open the throat plate and bobbin area to see if thread has tangled there. Snip and remove thread with tweezers - do not yank or **** and tangles out of the machine.

Hand wheel spins without moving the needle

I used to have an old Bernina that had an inner and outer hand wheel. Loosening the inner wheel disconnected the needle bar from the motor so you could wind the bobbin without running the needle up and down. It sounds to me like your machine has the same feature, but resistance on the needle makes the inner wheel loosen up. I don't know whether wrenching on it as tight as you can would be enough, or whether this is a symptom indicating that there is something loose internally in the connection between the inner and outer wheels. Good luck!
