Kitchenaid 14-Cup has plastic, chemical taste

I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of the awful taste in my morning cup of coffee. The really odd thing is its inconsistency-- sometimes it tastes fine, and the next day it will be undrinkable again. I don't leave water in the maker at all, so it doesn't have time to soak up the plastic taste. I clean both the carafe and the gold filter thoroughly. Has anyone found a real solution? Or gotten an answer from Kitchenaid? I miss my coffee!

Run 1/4 cup vingar with a pot of water. The coffee is not finishing its cycle and some remains in the works. You may have to do this several times. Washing the carafe with ice and salt by swirling it around a few times until it sparkels clean. Last thing for a good cup of coffee is filtered water which will keep the unit cleaner too. :)

Water not hot enough

Set the temperature to "extra hot" If still not hot enough, try zapping your coffee for a few moments in the microwave.. no coffee machine will boil the coffee as this would burn and cause an awful burned coffee taste

Strong plastic smell and taste on a new Keurig Platnum coffee mak

I had the same problem and I discovered that after running 3 resevoirs full of water through the machine at 192 degrees , it got rid of the plastic smell. Set the cup size at the largest size mug and then just open the lid and close it , hit brew and let it fill the cup. Dump the water in the sink and repeat until you go through at least 3 resevoirs. The smell should be gone by then.

Coffee tastes like rubber / plastic - brand new Keurig Platinum - any suggestions?

After getting in touch with the Keurig folks - I tried their solution. And... it worked! The coffee this morning tastes wonderful! Here is what they said:

To get rid of the "new brewer taste", we recommend you flush three reservoirs of water through the system. Please add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to the first reservoir of water. To do this, follow these simple steps:
~ Open and close the handle to simulate a brew cycle (without a K-Cup)
~ Press the largest cup size and brew a cup of water.
~ Repeat the process (opening and closing the lid, then brewing) until the reservoir is empty.
~ Flush two more reservoirs of water through the brewer in the same way.

This process will clear any lingering odors or flavors and allow you to enjoy an unadulterated cup of coffee.

Keurig only brews about 2-3 oz. of coffee.

Doesn't sound like a descaler issue. I am having problems with mine and noticed that water is flowing back into the reservoir when it is pouring into the coffee cup. I think there is a valve that is not closing properly.
