My kenmore upright freezer quit working after power outage

Hi,
I live in Oklahoma, and we have just been without power for a couple of days due to a huge ice storm. Our power is now back on, but our kenmore deep freeze isnt on. the serial number is 25322402100 and i think maybe model number is R134A. I think this has happned once before, and it almost seems like there was a reset button or something to reset, but we cannot find it anywhere. PLEASE HELP, AS MY FREEZER IS FULL OF FOOD. I know it wont last much longer. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. Leslie

    Hi,

There are no lights on at all, and it is the kind that we have to defrost ourselves............you know, take everything out, and unplug it. I know the outlet is working, because i plugged a tv into the same thing and its working. any other suggestions? Thanks, Leslie

Is there any lights on in the freezer? try plugging the freezer into an outlet you know is working. there is no "reset" on the freezer so if lights are on and it still isnt working it could possibly be stuck in defrost or the thermostat could be stuck in the off position.

for the defrost problem: pull freezer from wall and look in the compressor area and you will see a control under the unit left of the compressor. using a flat blade screwdriver advance the timer clockwise a few clicks and it will probably come back on. if that doesnt work lets check the thermostat.

thermostat stuck: this is easy but you need to check def timer first. using the handle of you screw driver tap the thermostat knob firmly. if the contacts are stuck open when you hit it the contacts will release and the unit will come back on.

hope this helps..

did you try tapping the thermostat as i previously posted? this may still get it going. if not your problem goes deeper and will probably need a service technician.

good luck and i hope things are warming back up..

I have a kenmore upright freezer model / 970-187020 and we had a power outage and now my temperature control is not working right and it says OFF all the time.

Sometimes when the power comes back on you get a power spike or low voltage, this can damage electrical components.

Freezer not working

Hi,
  • Make sure the freezer is plugged in
  • Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker
  • Test the power outlet for voltage
  • Inspect the electrical cord for damage
  • Eliminate use of an extension cord, if any is being used
  • Check the outage votageIf power is reaching the electrical outlet, trace the freezer wiring and test components as you go. Either there is a short, which must be located and repaired, or the freezer has sustained electrical damage.
Thanks.

Power outage and freezer is now flashing "e" on display

look on the inside of the toe kick at front bottom or just inside front bottom and you will find a tech sheet that will give you error codes.

Kenmore freezer quit working after power outage

simple stuff, you have a compressor a stat and power. check the receptacle to be sure you have 120 volts . then check the compressor with stat at max cold setting to see if you have 120 volts at compressor. if you do then compresssor is bad =new compressor or new unit. if no power to compressor then stat is bad= new stat. i always recomend new unit cause new stat or compressor wont fix a freon leak.... i have replaced a few compressors that died soon after due to a freon leak. good luck...

Kenmore freezer

Try cleaning out the drain opening with a pipe cleaner. Or use a turkey baster and force hot water into the drain. Rinse with a mild bleach solution to kill any mold. Another solution is to unplug the unit and let it sit for a couple of days to defrost completely. Sometimes during the humid summer the system just gets over burdened and doesn't defrost completely. This gets progressivly worse until you get this problem.
