clean contact points with pencil eraser and make sure you put in brand new batteries in the correct direction (polarity). It is very critical not to put it in the wrong way!!!!!!!!!!!
This happened to me as well. I took the batteries out and put new ones in three times (same batteries). The third time the camera started working again as soon as I closed the battery compartment and tried on "on" button.
I've got the same problem with 2 A 480 canon. I put in NiMH batteries and they work fine. If you put in slightly drained used batteries they work!! Nimh batteries are 1.2 volts and Alkaline are 1.5 volts. There is definitly a problem with this camera. I measured the voltages of brand new batteries 1.51 volts each and they didn't work. I put in some old batteries 1.4 and 1.42 volts and they worked fine.
my camera will not turn on or off lense stuck open put new batteries still nothing my daughter took picture with it everything went blank its the samsung s630 worked fine till today!!
Remove batteries and clean contacts both inside the battery chamber and on the chamber lid/cover.( use something slightly abrasive ). If this doesnt help replace fire fuse situated on the main pc board ( underneeth rear cover ).
