Go to menu and sub menu video .Under video option you will see video formatt,e.g Pal,NTSC.You confrim your tv standered if its pal or NTSC (this you can check at back of your tv set ,not always mention but most of them are printed)On your dvd player
you have to select same formatt as your tv .If not sure of you tv system try auto system on you player.
NB dont select progressive scan by mistake otherwise you will not see any picture on your tv if its not progressive scan tv.
If you could mention tv and dvd model and brand will be able to advise you exactly.

When playing DVD on panasonic plasma TV, the color is black and white

Consult the owner manual for the player (and or try it on another set) as many players have settings that can cause B&W or a single color display for the image.

I own a toshiba 19dv500 and am having trouble viewing a dvd, the system is working but only in black and white, no colour\???

Hello there,

A black and white picture is most often due to a faulty or incorrect RGB (red/green/blue) connection or cable.

If you are using a composite connection (red/white/yellow RCA jacks), you have probably connected the yellow plug to a socket labelled Pr/Pb, Cr/Cb, or Y - on either the DVD player or the TV - most probably the TV. The yellow needs to be connected to a socket labelled "VIDEO". If you connect this to any socket labelled Pr/Pb, Cr/Cb, or Y, you will get a black and white picture.

If you are using a component connection (red/green/blue RCA jacks), one of the plugs is either not fully inserted into the socket or is in the wrong socket. If you remove any one of the R/G/B plugs, you will get a black and white picture.

If you are using a SCART cable (UK / AUS), you may have a bent, damaged or disconnected pin.

I suggest you check and correct the connections between your DVD player and TV. If you are unable to locate the problem, please try another cable as the one you are using may be damaged. If you are still unable to locate the fault, please let me know the brand and model number of the DVD player and how it is connected to the TV. If required, I can also draw a diagram showing the correct connections.

It would also be useful to know whether this "fault" suddenly occured, or whether you have just connected the player to the TV.

Hope this helps - please let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric

Black and White Image

Yes there is video format for our TV and dvd players. NTSC & PAL...

NTSC SYSTEM SELECTED IN TV & DVD PLAYER PLAY PERFECT NTSC CDS & DVDS, BUT IF PAL CD OR DVD IS INSERTED SUCH PROBLEM COMES.
EVEN IF, THE DVD PLAYER SETTING IS KEPT AS PAL, AND WE INSERTING THE CORRECT CD OR DVD AND ALSO IT SHOW BLACK & WHITE PICTURE, ETC.... so please check your video system in TV, DVD PLAYER and check the CD or DVD you are inserting is of same video format you have set in DVD player.

Picture only shows in black & white when playing DVD

Same problem with an older JVC player. One end of the S-video cable was loose. Pushed in in tight and everything ok again. Cheap fix if it works for you.

No colour

Go to the setup menu. Change the output from NTSC to PAL. Should work.
