I own a toshiba 19dv500 and am having trouble viewing a dvd, the system is working but only in black and white, no colour\???
Hello there,
A black and white picture is most often due to a faulty or incorrect RGB (red/green/blue) connection or cable.
If you are using a composite connection (red/white/yellow RCA jacks), you have probably connected the yellow plug to a socket labelled Pr/Pb, Cr/Cb, or Y - on either the DVD player or the TV - most probably the TV. The yellow needs to be connected to a socket labelled "VIDEO". If you connect this to any socket labelled Pr/Pb, Cr/Cb, or Y, you will get a black and white picture.
If you are using a component connection (red/green/blue RCA jacks), one of the plugs is either not fully inserted into the socket or is in the wrong socket. If you remove any one of the R/G/B plugs, you will get a black and white picture.
If you are using a SCART cable (UK / AUS), you may have a bent, damaged or disconnected pin.
I suggest you check and correct the connections between your DVD player and TV. If you are unable to locate the problem, please try another cable as the one you are using may be damaged. If you are still unable to locate the fault, please let me know the brand and model number of the DVD player and how it is connected to the TV. If required, I can also draw a diagram showing the correct connections.
It would also be useful to know whether this "fault" suddenly occured, or whether you have just connected the player to the TV.
Hope this helps - please let me know if you need further assistance.
Regards,
BElectric
