I need to change the pulse duration on a 4VV38 Dayton timer that controls all the lunch and break buzzers. It currently is in default mode at 1 second.

Slide switch on bottom left to TIME. Press H key for hour - M key for minutes Then WEEK key until day of week. Press SET and current time is displayed. Slide bottom left switch back to AUTO and present time will display

Question is unclear.
Help me break it down.
You want to push a button and sound alarm?
And then you want alarm to sound until you push button again?
And then you want timer to delay 20 minutes before sounding alarm again for an unknown amount of time?
What is the reset?
Add a comment and say what control you have wired to the timer and a clear 1-2-3 sequence of events and times for possible help.
1EJE8 is 10-function timer, and no manual appears on the internet July2011.
Magnecraft has same-similar timer, the 820 series.

8) Not wanting to say what already know, but each 240V circuit is made from two out-of-phase 120V lines. Any 240Volt Load can be turned OFF by turning off one of the 120V lines. In this way, the Dayton 120V timer can be used to control 240V load.
Also the 120V Dayton can operate 120V double-pole contactor, and then the contactor controls 240V Load.

Terminals 6 and 7 are wired with 120Volt power as shown.
The push button gives momentary impulse of electricity to timer.
Timer activates when impulse of electricity ends.
Timer activation turns Load ON and begins countdown.
When countdown expires, timer turns Load OFF.

Terminal 2 is 125V Hot from breaker.
Terminal 3 is Neutral.

Terminal 1 goes to Load.
Load cannot exceed 1 amp.
So Dayton timer can only control single 100 watt light bulb, or it can control 120Volt coil on contactor.
Contactor turns on Load with any voltage: 120, 240, 277, etc or 3 phase contactor.


Suggest busman in-line 1 amp fuse between terminal 1 and Load to protect timer.

Dayton 2VJ58A is a small, expensive 2 channel timer.

My understanding is that 2 channel timers are made "for the independent control of two circuits." I assume the advantage of multi-channel timers is needing just 1 timer on the control board.

If you are using 2 channels to control one circuit, I don't know the outcome, or if the 2VJ58A is made to do that job. It may ruin the timer!?! Be careful.

The less expensive ST01C timer offers 40 programs per week where overlapping times can exist on same load. These timers advise not to program overlapping times, ST01C troubleshooting says NOTE: Your switch timer automatically skips any conflicting ON event

Dayton timers are made in Japan but I could not locate a web site other than Grainger who sells the product. Probably the timer manual has manufacturing info. Grainger sales might be able to help?

Solution: I would call the seller, or Grainer, or the manufacturer. They might know about the software parameters. I would re-read the instructions carefully, and read up on multi-channel timers before putting power to the timer.

You want to control 3 separate circuits.
So you need a timer with minimum of 3 independent relays.
Each circuit has a different program.
So you need a 3-channel timer. Each channel is programmed separately to operate a different relay.
You want timer to operate in 15 second intervals. Most electronic timers have minimum 1 minute on-off, so you need electronic timer with pulse capability.

Sounds more like it's been set to do that. Use the following to shut off the timer mode. It's possible that the set is set to the wrong time of day but that is unlikely. You can shut off the timer mode using the on screen menu. Follow the instructions below.

Current Time Set your TV to the current day and time. Press to open the Current

Intermatic and Tork make digital timers with interval settings that can be set for specific short-duration with 1 minute minimum.
(Or set to pulse bell ringing with 1-127 seconds.
10 minutes is 600 seconds)
For example ET70115 single-channel timer.
The timer would be set for 24-hour operation, and then programmed for Pulse, and then set timer with 24 programs, with 1 program for each hour.

To operate these timers certain hours of the day, add another timer in-line.
The in-line timer could be digital, but remember digital timers are not protected from power surge and tend to have more problems, and do not have replaceable clock motors and trippers.
