I have a 1987 gmc jimmy that wont start..back in june i replaced the fuel tank, fuel sending unit, fuel pump, new filter, fuel pump relay, esc module, spark knock sensor, map sensor, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor button...the jimmy ran good for a few weeks..then while drving around i hit a bump and about 5sec later the jimmy shut down...the jimmy started back up and was running a little rough but then finally started running normal...i was about 80 miles from home...ran good all the way home except one time at the red light it shut off but started back ok...when i was about 200 yards from home i hit another bump and it shut off again...coasted into the yard and it started back up ok once again..the next day drove it about 10 miles and it shut down again and then would not start back up...i can crank it with starting fluid for about 2 sec then shuts off...i had a extra ecm so i changed it out but that did not help things...I NEED HELP???

Yea you have no fuel and sound like a bad harness and the gm's are know for there fuel pump harness's! did you change it when you changed the pump? there is a lose connection somewhere in the fuel delivery system and it's pretty simply! i would check the fuel pump relay on the left hand side of the engine compartment and maybe even put power to the pump at the relay position "b" on the fuel pump relay harness and there should be a one pin connector to put power to also connected to the same position on the relay "b" the wire should be tan and white! good luck

My 1995 GMC JIMMY , i dropped tank ,cleaned it out, replaced fuel pump & sending unit. when i try to start the car it wont turn over, it tries to but acts as if its strugling

I would start with a new battery once the cells in a battery go bad they won't hold charge so when you jump them and try to start them they aren't holding in voltage in the battery which doesn't allow the car to start. A starter pulls a lot of amp. If you don't replace the battery stalest try charging it on a low amp battery charger

1995 GMC JIMMY WONT START UNLESS I PRIME IT THEN IT JUST DIES ITS FUEL INJECTED

It sounds like you have a defective fuel pump. The pump is locate inside the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be removed to replace the pump. Please follow this procedure to remove the fuel tank.
Disconnect neg battery cable, safely raise vehicle, place floor jack under tank, loosen gas tank straps and allow tank to slowly drop halfway, disconnect( this is the hard part) fuel lines, and power connections at tank. Drop tank. With a brass hammer/punch carefully remove retaining ring/seal.Reverse to install.A new pump module will cost you $300-$400 at the dealer. Don't use a cheap pump replace the entire assembly because this is a float/sender/pump/ in one. Replace your fuel filter too or the fuel pump warranty is voided..

2001 jimmy fuel sending unit

if you take the time to drop the fuel tank you might as well replace the fuel pump module. this will come with a new fuel pump and level sending unit. DO NOT USE AN AIRTEX brand. they will leave you with more problems! Get an a/c delco or delphi pump. make sure to replace the fuel filter at the same time.

I remove them with a flat punch and a ball pean hammer gently tap on the ring away from the stops and the ring will rotate off

1998 gmc jimmie 4.3, 2 wd. wont start. getting no gas at the fuel bleeder valve. has new fuel pump and new fuel filter. started and ran fine after new pump and filter install. drove 15 miles and parked all...

Check to see if fuel is getting to the filter. Maybe too much dirt in lines & plugged filter? If fuel at filter, put hose in place of filter JUST LONG enough to see if fuel is getting to fuel rail.

How do you change out internal fuel pumps on a 1987 gmc jimmy? i don't see any bolts on the top of the fuel tank.

Just follow the wiring and fuel lines to the tank. The pump is behind that area. Make sure the fuel level is well below that area before opening. Hope this helps!

If my GMC Jimmy will not start and my car has a full tank of gas and a good battery what can cause this. My car sounds like it wants to start but just is not able to. Fuel Filter?

Fuel filter, but most likely a worn out fuel pump. The engine needs 62 - 65 PSI to start the engine. Anything less then that, the engine will not start. Start with the simple and check all your fuses and then check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge connected to the shredder valve.
The valve is located on the fuel line by the distributor drivers side, if the fuel pressure is less then that. Replace the fuel pump and the wire harness from the frame to the fuel sending unit.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck.

My 1995 GMC jimmy 4x4 just stopped running. Had it towed home. mechanic told me it was a fuel pump. just changed fuel pump and sending unit. Tried to start and will not fire. Put some gas in intake and...

Only one question.....was the fuel filter replaced? On a jimmy the filter is usually mounted to the rail up under the passenger door on the drivers side. Sounds like there is some sort of obstruction that is preventing fuel from making it from the fuel tank to the engine. I would have thought that the mechanic would have replaced the fuel filter first thing, so maybe it has already been done. Only you and the mechanic know the answer to that one. Good luck with your problem.
