The camera has a setup selection to Connect with different sources, be sure you have selected DISP OUT to LCD. the USB (i.Link) output. Check the manual page 47, that has instructions on the procedure.

SOURCE: transfer recording from tape recorder to computer

Use a cable running from the headphone jack on the recorder into your PC microphone jack. Then you can capture the audio using Windows MovieMaker software that comes with Windows XP. I have done this and it worked perfectly.

SOURCE: cannot find sony usb cable to connect cam to pc

This problem has largely been answered by one of people posting the problem. Once the disk has been finalised in the camera remove it and insert it in the PC's DVD drive. If it "Autoruns" you will be asked what you want to do. If you have no third party video editing software on your machine select .....using Windows Movie Maker and "Import" the footage into that program. If the disk doesn't "Autorun" start WMM and import from your DVD drive (probably drive "D"). Use WMM's Help to find your way around.

SOURCE: Unable to use firewire Sony handycam DCR-HC 54E (mini DV)

I have a Sony Camcorder DCR-HC62E with same problem and found a workaround. The iLink seems not to be enabled in the camcorder except for only one of the working modes: setting PLAY/EDIT and then choosing STREAM. Once you get to this condition with the provided USB cable properly plugged at both ends, Windows recognizes a new device and asks for a driver, so you insert the provided Handicam Application Software disk and make Windows install it (I got a Windows message saying the driver is not safe but went on anyway).

Of course that in such a mode the Sony application "Import from Handycam (tape)" cannot and does not work, but using Microsoft Movie Maker and selecting File->Capture Video the camcorder is shown. Select it by clicking its icon and Next. On next screen Captured Video File define the required info and press Next. On next screen Video Setting select Best Quality.. and Next. On Captured Video screen be sure to have checked Create clips when wizzard finishes and proceed manually as follows: go to the beginning of the tape (or of the part you want to download) using the rewind/forward/play/stop controls in the camera. Once ready press Start Capture in Movie Maker and simultaneously Play in the camera, the filemed movie will show in the preview as it is played. When you're done stop camera play and press Stop Capture.

I dnt hav usb cable for my handy cam DCR-HC52E ...

Product Summary
4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.

You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.

This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook)
NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.

I have a sony pc 100 dv cam. I am trying to find the right cable to connect it to my mac. I need what ever sony uses one one end and usb on the other.

your camcorder doesnt support usb connection.although it came with a pc serial cable, its the cable used for memory stick picture transfer, along with it comes a serial port adaptor for the memory stick and ac adaptor for serial adaptor. of course even if you lost this accessories you can still transfer pics from the ms using a memory card reader which works basically the same way. for videos on the tape you would just need a firewire or an ilink (ieee1394) cable. almost all mac computers support this connection.it's the dv in/out jack on the camcorder with an i symbol.upper most jack on the camcorder jack's location.check your mac to find out what cable you need.the unit uses a 4pin ilink port so you need a 4pin ilink cable at one end and the other end should match of course, the firewire port on your mac computer.should be a plug and play connection.you can use imovie software for video capturing.hope this helps.thanks :)

Transfer video to computer

I would like to know more about this USB adapter cable you bought. The camera has a IEEE-1394 (commonly refered to as Firewire or i-Link) connection that is inherently incompatible with USB. I don't see how one cable could do the trick unless it had some kind of conversion hardware built into it. Does it have a little box on the cable or is it just a straight cable?
CNet.com says that your laptop has a four pin Firewire port on it. I would go to BestBuy and tell them you need a Firewire cable with a four pin connector on both ends. If they give you a weird look tell them that is the small Firewire plug, not the big one. If they are still confused, get somebody else to help you. Then use that cable to plug your camera into your computer. Windows should recogonize it automatically. If it doesn't there may be a problem with you camera.

Failure to connect my dcr-trv265e sony cam in windows vista

You need iLink (firewire/ IEEE1394/ DV) cable to transfer movei files from DCR-TRV265E to PC and PC should have DV port to plug-in.
USB cable will not give you such facility.
You can see iLINK cable here.

ILink cable and laptop

I would have to consult your manuals.

I think that you are saying you want to connect USB. Nearly all computer ports are the SAME. [USB A]. Devices, on the other hand have maybe 6 connections. A very popular one is like a mini-usb. Look in the manual for what it says it is, take the camcorder with you when you exchange the cable.

Connecting to computer

if it's a digital 8 like you said you should use a firewire cable to stream from cam-your cam has a dv port on it if it is digital-this is 4 pin firewire end-if your laptop or desk has same connect your fine-laptop has same sive end-desktop or mac has larger 6 pin end-if not use a box by pinnacle called dazzle that will convert your video out to usb-use windows movie maker if you want to work with video it's in xp or vista already installed

Pcmcia card

i think you can connect the 2 using a firewire that can be connected thru the usb.

the camcorder has this with it. its a small cable which you connect from the cam into the laptops usb.

pcmcia port is usually for portable nics and extender slots. please do check with the firewire fisrt as this is the main route for transfering data from cam to laptop.
