Recently, my powered sub burned out when a blanket with static charge was tossed on top of it. Weird. What is worse: it burned out the output of my Onkyo SR502 subwoofer pre output. When I connect to it I get a loud, loud hum (using a different sub). Any ideas?
May not necessarily be the out put, discontect the sub from the receiver and see if it still makes a hum, Making sure that you turn auto on, off on the sub woffer.
If it still makes a hum, then you have a earthing problem, you can get a earth filter put on your internal wiring in your home, or you can remove the earth pin on your sub woffer

At the Onkyo, check to make sure you have run the speaker setup starting on Page 40. If that doesn't work...
Disconnect the subwoofer pre-out at the Onkyo and move it to the VCR Out, tune an FM station and be ready for some real loud subwoofer output if your sub has no volume control of its own. If you can hear the sub, it works and it's back to the Onkyo. If not, the unnamed sub
