E4 means dishwasher sensor is detecting the dishwasher is over filling. First thing I would check is the float. You will want to make sure it travels up and down freely. Open your dishwasher door all the way. Look on the right hand side (could be in a different location on your model) you will see a round thing. Kind of looks like a air hockey pusher. Try moving it slowly up and down making sure it’s not stuck open.
If this didn’t work then I would lean towards a faulty sensor.
It’s possible you could have a faulty board as well.
It is my opinion unplugging it will have no effect on this particular issue.
I hope this information has helped. God bless and have a great day.

Hi
Sorry, I still don't know what the problem is. I've been washing up by hand! Looks like I will have to call an engineer out at some point .... I'd better save some money :-)

Error 4 says in the manual it means 'overfilled'! pretty useless info really. What it actually means is water in base of unit, normally caused by leaking pipe, check pipe connection at the back of the upper tray When you push tray in it connects with a down pipe, quite common for these to break. If ok check for other water leaks.

There is a water holding tank on the right lower side (when u are looking at the front), empty it and the unit comes back on.
SOURCE: middle wash arm doesn't turn on quiet power 1 ge dishwasher
The last two holes (the ones wich give the spin to the arm) are blocked. Remove the arm and try to unblock with a thootpick and by running water into the arm.
Good luck
