Thanks for your selflessness Steve H. describing the RESET procedure for the Epson R300 by simutaneouly depressing the POWER, STOP and MAINTENANCE switches.
I checked with Epson, via telephone, and they recommended going to an authorized dealer for ink pad replacement (approximately $100) or buy a new printer ( $150 - $250).
After completing your suggested RESET procedure successfully - I went a step further and mopped up the excess ink that was evident on the 'black ink pad' which was saturated with black ink. I used Kleenex which seemed to mop up the excess BLACK ink nicely, and continued this mopping procedure until there was no evidence of black ink on the Kleenex. There was very little evidence of spilled ink on the color pads.
Time alone will tell. So thanks again Steve - you saved me $100 to $200.
Oh yeah! I LOVE this printer.
I have had the same problem and its because I have been using compatible inks. You just need to take it to your nearest Epson dealer and have the ink pads cleaned.
Thank you so very much Guest for your solution . I too didn't want to have to buy an new printer and since I am not very smart with fixing things my only solution would of been to do that but thanks to you I was able to contiue using my printer.
Thanks so very much

My printer (3230) is converted to be a ciss,, does it work the same??
To Steve H.
Thank you very much. This worked for us and we thought we had to find a new printer. Love this one and am glad for the fix.
Louis
I have had a R300M for a while now and had a few cartridges in it. (Mostly Compatible Cartridges not OEM) Recently a message came up on the screen 'parts inside your printer are at the end of their life' and the printer refused to work!
After searching the web it appears to be a waste ink counter, but I could not find any info on resetting it.
Tried pressing different combinations of buttons on the printer and success. (Found Ink counter reset)
Press and hold 'stop' 'maintenance'(ink button) and 'power' buttons for about 10 seconds,(while printer is on) a message will come up on the screen saying counter is reset and to turn off.
Thats it, turned my printer back on, and all works fine again.
I hope this helps R300/R300M owners out!
(Also I have email into Epson Support, can't wait to hear what they say the problem is for the fix!)
Good Luck,
Steve H. :-)
Service Required Parts Inside your printer is at the end of service life. This message refers to the ink pads, which are actually a number of porous pads in the printer that collect, distribute, and very importantly contain the ink that is not used on printed pages. Ink is collected by these pads during the initial setup of the product, during cleaning cycles and when printing borderless photographs. Most users will not receive this message before the printer is replaced for other reasons. Some high volume users or those who use the printer for many years may receive this message about ink pads before other components reach the end of their usable live.
The best solution that we can advice regardding this error message are the following:
1. Download the Epson Ink Pad Reset Utility at http://www.epson.com/ipr
2. Since the ink pad is full. It is recommended to send the printer to the nearest authorized epson service center.

Hi, it means you must contact epson to have it repaired, which usually costs £75 + vat ie cheaper to buy a new one.
parts are too expensive to even attempt to fix the problem yourself..
Happy New Year

Service required. Parts inside the Printer are near the end of their servicelife. i have a C88+ Epson Printer and would like to know what i can do against that Probleme.
Thanks for the advice. Simultaneously pressing stop, maintenance & power buttons for around ten seconds causes the displays to go blank as if the power gos off. Keep pressing them for another few seconds and it resets the ink pad full and a message appears on the LCD screen. I switched the power off then on and moved the ink carrage out of the way by going through the cartridge replacement routine. It is then possible to soak up the excess ink in the pads with tissues and some ink cartridge flush fluid if you have it.
Reset as if ink cartridge has been replaced. Job done. Printer back in action.
Thanks for the advice. I can get on with work.
