I removed Sand-Disk from my Olympus E-510camera was OFF. Disk did not fit my PC slot, I put the Disk back to camera. However when I switch camera On, the camera showed Disk Full No Pictures.

Previously for several years, I had never removed Disk from camera. How to recover pictures from Disk? Could I do it without camera with same additional device?

Is this an SD card or SDHC card ? If so, have you inadvertently set the write-protect switch to 'ON' ?

To read it on your computer, you will need to get a USB card reader that will read your particular card, then connect this to your computer, which should treat the card as an extra drive.

You say the card has been in use for several years - it may just be corrupted or at the end of its useful life - I should consider replacing it soon.

Testimonial: "Thank you. The card is SD. I hope I did not inadvertently set the write-protect switch to 'ON'. If I did, what does it mean?"

It means the card cannot be written to, but this is easily remedied. With the card label facing you, contacts at the top, on the left side there is a little switch. Move it down for write protect, up to free card for writing. Good luck.

Thank you very much. Unfortunately, I could not find any switch on the left side. May by disc is too old. It's written sanDisk Ultra II 4GB CF 2004. What to do? How to recover pictures?

SOURCE: write protect message appears on screen

Sounds as if the memory card may be corrupted. In order to remove the write protect, make sure you have downloaded and saved all of the images from the memory card to your computer and then having the card in the camera you will need to run the format option and this will permanently remove the write protect as well as all of the images from the card.
The card should be able to be used again after the write protect is removed.

SOURCE: Olympus 790SW 7.1 MP reads full 1GB memory card is full after 2 pictures

Suggestion is to format the memory card and permanently delete all of the images from it. The card should then be able to be reused and you can start taking images again. To format the card go to Menu - setup and press ok - go to format and press ok - go to yes and press Ok. This will clear the card and you are back in business.

When I insert my pny optima sdhc 4gb into my olympus camera it says write protect and I can't use the camera. It has worked before so what is wrong with it?

SD cards have a slide lock switch to enable/disable write protection on one side. Check if you flipped the switch to the locked position when you put the card into the camera. (The switch will be on the left side of the card. That's the side without the angle cut out.) It's locked when the switch is towards the contact area that goes into the card slot. When you put the card back into the camera, use care to avoid accidentally moving the switch. If the switch moves very easily, you should probably replace the SD card. In that case, sometimes the lock will enable as the camera is moved.

If that doesn't help, copy the pictures that are currently on the SD card to another device. Then try to reformat the card. (You may need to try to reformat it on another device. Put the card into a card reader on your computer. Then use the Disk Management commands on the computer. For Windows XP and later, this can be found under the System and Security Control panel near the bottom of the page.)

If the lock switch has been damaged, you may be able to temporarily disable the lock by trimming any remaining plastic from inside the lock groove and then covering the groove with Scotch tape or a similar product. (Make sure not to cover the contacts or leave the tape lumpy enough to keep the card from fitting into the card slot.) Plan on replacing the card soon.

I hope this helps.

Olympus SP800UZ Digital Camera Media card will not lock into card slot, it comes right back out!

Put in another SD or SDHC memorycard to test if it is the camera or the memorycard which is faulty. Are you sure you put in the correct type of card? Only SD / SDHC will fit correctly in the camera.

After you remove the memory chip from the camera, where do you put it on the PC to download the pictures?

either a built in card reader... your looking for an XD slot if you have an olympus camera. otherwise you can plug your camera into the computer via a usb cable plugged into the camera and the usb port on the front of your pc. if not then invest in an external card reader. one of those will do the trick i'm sure!

My olympus camedia d-540ZOOM writes " write protect" on its screen... so, I can't take pictures, can't edit them.I can't even move the pictures to a pc inserting the memory card directly...

Take your memory card out and move the tiny plastic switch on it to "unlock" or whatever it says. If that doesn't help, try another card. If that still doesn't help, come back and we'll try something else!

The camera says xd and sd compatible but it seems that the card is getting stuck and wont fit into the slot for the card?? any ideas why? i just bought the camera 2 days ago

The camera has one xD slot, and is supplied with an adapter which fits into the slot if you wish to use micro-SD cards. Regular SD and mini-SD cards will not fit.

If the batteries are a common type, install them into another device to see if they really are still OK or buy a cheap digital multimeter or battery tester.
The latter can be bought at the chain hardware stores or Radio Shack and draw some current to lightly test the load capabilities of them.

These batteries do fail to a short; NICads are the worst but lithium ion and NiMh can fail as well.
The 'sand' diagnosis may be right but what you describe could still be only batteries.
