All bobbin cases are not the same. And use of the wrongly fitting case will have unfortunate results. The slightest difference can wreck havoc. That said, the following page offers a bobbin case that purportedly fits several brands including Montgomery Ward.

Other than that, I suggest you take the part you are attempting to replace to a service shop and see if they have a match. Indeed, if you make a purchase at the link above, I would recommned you carefully compare the two bobbins once in hand. Alternatives include buying a parts machine. Although Montgomery Ward was bought in 2004, it is unlikely vintage stock is available through the buying entity. Ebay has several of these machines for your consideration.

This site is the only place I could locate a manual, but it is not the exact model number. Some manuals will serve more than one model - ask before you buy.

SOURCE: I have a Montgomery Ward sewing machine that does
Did you get a solution to this? I have the same problem...
SOURCE: I have old montgomery ward
The reverse button is on the frount in the center of the knob to the right of the machine, if it only goes in reverse the button is stuck pressed in. I have the same machine but am needing parts to mine, if you ever want to sell it please contact me
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Looking for a manual for a Montgomery Ward sewing machine model # UHT J1867
I found your manual available at the following website:
http://sewingcenter.us/Wards-Model-UHT-J-276/Wards-Sewing-Machine-UHT-J-276-Manual/ilvm_fly1_blue.tpl.html
It's available for download for a small fee (less than $10). I hope this helps you.
Don't know if problem is resolved, but I put a Mont Ward sewing machine model # UHT 1460 on Washington DC Craigslist a few moments ago. Could not fix it, so am selling it for parts (something is wrong with bobbin assembly and I give up!!). If you just want the power cord and foot contact me through there and I will detach it and mail it to you--the postage shouldn't be too much for just those parts.
