My weedwaacker will start and "kinda" run on half choke. I have replaced the in tank filter and fuel line, new plug and tried adj. carb. How do I bypass the plastic adj screw limiters? Is there a too to do this?
There is a tool to remove those pesky limiters, but a medium flat blade screwdriver used to pry them off works well too. just be sure to put them back on when you've got the adjustments made [wink, wink]
Check your muffler screen in the exhaust ! I have seen carbon or mud dobber's build a nest in these and when cleaned fire right up and run ! If you need to adjust the carb passed the preset screw limits the a carb rebuild kit is likely!

I'd try a basic maintenance and then see what happens.
- Change spark plug
- Pull fuel filter. Clean or replace.
- Remove air filter, clean or replace.
- Remove muffler. Clean all carbon from spark arrestor screen.
Start and set carb fast, slow, and idle. If you want coaching on the procedure, reply as a COMMENT to this post.
Cheers.
Thats is definately a lean condition. Can be caused by one or more of the following problems: clogged fuel filter, rotten fuel lines, stiff diaghrams, and clogged carb screen. Todays fuel is a large cause of the problem so I advise that you go ahead and service the entire fuel system... replace the fuel lines and filter and rebuild the carb. Also if the primer bulb is discolored ( brown, they are clear when new) it should be replaced too. This is not a difficult task as long as you are patient and take your time. Carb kits run from 7-12 bucks, a filter is about 3 bucks and fuel line is about 2 bucks a foot and a primer buld is just a few bucks. I reccomend getting extra fuel line. It needs to be very snug in the tank to prevent leaking so cut an angle on the end of the fuel line to get it started then reach in and grab it with hemostats and pull it though the fill opening; then cut it off even and insert the fuel filter; then pull the line back into the tank to desired position making sure that filter lays loosely on the bottom of the tank, then cut to length to attatch to carb
hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vacuum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum, also the gas will evaporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out, replacing gaskets or fuel line if necessary.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where they want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow until machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding against engine to check spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter, hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you, ~~
Alow the engine to run for longer on the start setting before you switch to run (choke turned off)
Ensure air filter is clean. Foam elements can be washed
with hot water and detergent, squeezed dry in a cloth, and then rub
about half a teaspoon of oil evenly through the foam. Paper elements can
be cleaned with compressed air blown from the inside of the filter but
ideally should be replaced.
Check fuel lines aren't kinked or blocked restricting fuel flow.
Ensure fuel filter isn't dirty. This is probably located at the end of the fuel line in the tank.
The fuel lines may have become airlocked. This can
happen if the tank is run dry. If the trimmer has a primer bulb,
alternatively press it several times and then try to pull start the
engine with choke on. Repeat this several times. The primer bulb should
feel spongy and fill with fuel.Once the engine kicks, switch to run
Ensure the choke is turning off ok when you rev the machine (automatic turn off choke) Have a look at these tips also :
