Hard to say how much longer the lamp will last. Most lamps have a factory live expectancy of about 3,000 hours. They program the tvs with a timer that lets owners know when its close to that time. Depending on how often the set is used will affect he lamp life, if played for 5hrs a day the lamp may last longer then if its played 10hrs. When the picture gets dim or causes the set to shut down is when its time to change the lamp. If you remove the lamp and the reflector (mirror), the element has white spots or is misshapen is when they should be replaced. There is usually a lamp timer and a way to reset the counter in the menu options. Check the owners manual for instructions.

We purchased a sony wega hd lcd projection tv. The set had a great picture until the lamp had to be replaced. The screen got progressively darker until the screen went completely dark. After the lamp...

It sounds to me like you got a fingerprint on the lamp when you installed it. The oils in your skin can cause all kinds of problems on a lamp that gets soo hot. I recommend replacing the lamp again and using a tissue or sterile glove to hadle the new bulb. Also, before replacing the lamp make sure to clean and vacuum out the light engine box and fan.

If the problem persists, then the LCD panels inside the light engine have been heat damaged. There is a class action lawsuit in New York that is trying to extend the light engine warrantee on Wega TVs. You should give Sony a call at 1-800-222-SONY for information and more assistance.

good luck!

Sony wega 55 inch tv turns on fine but after one minute tv shuts itself off and comes back on 40 seconds later by itself and this cycle continues - none of the error code lights blink

This kind of problem occurs when lamp becomes weak that means near to end of working life hours but still not dead nor broken.
Replacement of lamp in tv will solve your problem, lamp replacement procedure is easy and would be written in user manual.
Thanks.

JUST FOR WELCOMEJEE How easy is it to replace the lamp on a sony 50 wega ? I dont have the exact model but if you could give me a rough idea

Hi,
Lamp replacement is very easy in Sony TV, unplug tv from wlll socket, let cool down for half an hour, check at left side of tv, you will see lamp door, open it to see another safety door, unlock it and slide it out, there you will see lamp, pull it out and put new lamp, and put safety door, lock it and then lamp cover.
Plug back tv in and turn it On.
Thanks.

The red and green lights on my Sony KF-42SX300 keep flashing, and the TV will not switch on. It was working fine earlier, the lamp light also comes on, but not all the time, it has noly just started doing...

I would take the Lamp out and see if it is shattered. It is not unusual for them to fail suddenly. If it is shattered, you can contact Sony at 1800-222-SONY and order one.
I hope this helps

Sony grand wega kf-50we610 red lamp light blinking

The red light means that the prjection bulb needs to be replaced. They ony last about two years depending on hours of use. The low popping sounds as well as fan noise is normal for the Sony projection TV. You can Google the owners manual by entering the brand, model etc. and ask for the owner's manual. I had to go to several sites but eventually found it.
