This sounds like a problem with the power supply. Usually capacitors on the power supply board tend to dome, bulge or dry up. The damaged ones can be seen on the power supply circuit board when the back is removed. The dry ones have to be removed and tested. The caps can be replaced at a repair shop for around $200, but if the power supply board has to be replaced it can cost a little more. It all depends on the shops repair fees.
