NetFlix movies My video is outdated and won't show controls and clear picture from NetFlix. Can this be updated over the web or do I need new hardware?

Are you trying to update the netflix app? if so on what device?
or are you trying to update the movie/show list? if so netflix has limited space on their servers to run smoothly for their millions of customers so they don't have everything ready to stream at once, they do however have everything on dvd which will make it to your house within the week.

Netflix removes movies and shows from time to time. Unfortunately, there is no way to get it back.

It could possibly be a slow internet connection speed. Netflix posted requirements. This is a good site to check your speed. http://www.speedtest.net/ Internet Connection Speed Recommendations Below are the Internet download speed recommendations per stream for playing movies and TV shows through Netflix.

• 0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed
• 1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed
• 3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality
• 5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality
• 25 Megabits per second - Recommended for Ultra HD quality

HD Video Quality
Movies and TV shows we have available in high definition will play in 720p or better with a fast enough internet connection. To watch Netflix in HD, ensure you have a HD plan, then set your video quality setting to High in the Playback Settings for your account.
Netflix Bandwidth Usage
Higher quality video uses more bandwidth than lower-quality video. If your service provider applies a bandwidth or data cap to your Internet service, you canManage Bandwidth Usage by changing the video quality settings to Low or Medium to consume less data.

1. Clear browser cookies
   Your browser may be referencing an out-dated or corrupted setting in the cookie file.
   1. Go to netflix.com/clearcookies to clear the Netflix cookie. This will sign you out of Netflix.com.
   2. Select Netflix Home, then Member Sign In to log back in and play your movie or TV show again.

   Sometimes restarting your browser can clear this issue.
   • Quit your browser, restart it, and play your movie or TV show again.
3. Try another browser
   A browser extension, plug-in or add-on may be causing this error. Try playing your movie or TV show in another browser.
   • If you're unable to play your movie or TV show in multiple browsers, there may be a problem with the Silverlight Plug-in used by Netflix.com.

To uninstall the Silverlight plug-in:Windows 8

4. Underneath Programs, select Uninstall a program.

6. Click Remove

To install the latest version of the Silverlight plug-in:

1. Navigate to the Watch Instantly home page and click play on any title.
2. Follow the prompts to download and Install Silverlight on Your Windows PC.

if your using Firefox

From the black screen:

1. Click the orange Firefox button in the upper-left corner of the browser window.
2. Select Options.
3. Make sure there is a check mark next to Add-On Bar.
4. A bar should appear along the bottom of the browser window. In the bottom left corner of the bar, click the red stop sign.
5. Click Disable on movies.netflix.com.
6. Press the back arrow to return to the Instantly Watch home page.
7. Try playing your movie or TV show again.
