Cannot re-program remote transmitters for garage door opener

I have a universal remote transmitter for my garage door and I have programmed the one in my new Chevy Malibu to work as well. Both have been working to open and close my Sears Craftsman garage door. All of a sudden, the Malibu one wouldn't work. So I checked the universal remote, and it didn't work either. I have tried re-programming them like I had originally done, and they won't re-program. My garage door opener has a smart button. What is happening?

If both remotes quit at or about the same time then it is most likely the receiver that has quit. Especially if you have had electrical storms in the area. The receiver is part of your logic board.

Testimonial: "Thank you. So does that mean I have to replace my receiver?"

Help truck was stolen, I used remote control to "teach" truck how to open door... I reset door opener and relearned the remote..my question is do the remote have a new entry code when I learn, or remote is...

Ounce you reset ALL code of the garage door opener (engine hook up to the ceiling of the garage that open up the door), ounce you press the reset button on the unit, it disable all transmitter (portable or the one install in your vehicle). Your garage door opener has a receiver in it and your all units that you press on to open the door are the transmitter, so by pressing the reset button on the door opener, you erase all codes of all the transmitter that where programmed to open-up that door.

So if you teach your vehicle using a portable unit and you now reprogram your new vehicle with the SAME portable transmitter, then yes who ever has your stolen vehicle can come back with your stolen vehicle to your house and open up your garage door since you re-programmed the door opener using the SAME transmitter same code sent to the unite to active it).

The light in my Homelink system does not come on. Therefore it cannot be programmed.

The following are steps to programming a rolling code door opener to the Homelink transmitter in the Touareg.

The instructions in the owner's manual are correct, but after following them, my garage door installer and I discovered a few quirks and fixes for them.

It is important to park the Touareg in front of the garage door. Be careful not to park underneath it. rolleyes.gif

If your remote garage door transmitters are already programmed to your door opener, you need to do the following steps:

1. On the garage door opener itself, there is a learn button. Press and hold down the learn button until the learn indicator light goes out (approx. 6 seconds). (The learn button is near the antenna on your door opener.) By doing this, you have just reset the codes. At this point your remote door transmitters will most likely not work. This is o.k.

2. In the Touareg, press and hold whichever homelink button you want to program until the light above the homelink buttons slowly blinks. Continue to hold the button in and at the same time, hold your remote transmitter underneath the map lights and press the button. Continue to press both buttons until the homelink light rapidly flashes. Let go of both buttons.

3. You now have 30 seconds to press the learn button on your garage door opener. Press it once. The light will start to blink.

4. Go back to the Touareg, press and hold the homelink button you just programmed for 3 seconds until you get a blinking light. Repeat again. This time, it should open or close the door. The homelink button is now programmed.

5. Now that the homelink button is programmed, you now have to re-program your remote transmitters. Take the transmitters with you.

6. On the garage door opener, press the learn button, the light will blink. Now press the button on the remote transmitter. The light should stop blinking. Repeat the step if you have more than one transmitter. You should be all set. The homelink button should work in the Touareg and your remote transmitter(s) should also work.

In summary, the rolling codes in the door opener receiver have to be reset. For some reason, the Touareg has to be programmed FIRST. Then the remote transmitter units. If the remote transmitter units are already programmed, you will most likely not be able to program the homelink in the Touareg for a rolling code door opener.

How do i program my car to open the door? i have built into my new car. everytime i try to program it, it will not work. what am i doing wrong?

  1. Clear out anything previously programmed into the in-car system from the factory by holding down on the 2-outside buttons simultaneously, until the in-car LED starts flashing rapidly. This may take up to a minute (in most cases, the key should be on auxilary, and/or the car door must be shut).

  2. Decide which button you want to make to be your in-car garage door transmitter. Hold your transmitter up near the selected button, pressing both the garage door remote and the selected in-car transmitter button simultaneously. Hold down on the buttons until the in-car, LED light flashes rapidly. This sets the in-car remote transmitter to be your garage door openers make transmitter, but you are not done. You now need to make this in-car transmitter your personal transmitter.

3. Go to the Learn Button on your garage door opener. The button is usually next to the area where the floppy antenna is connected to the motor head. With Genie it is most often behind the light lens, and an indicator light flashes red when pressed. With Sears or Liftmaster (Chamberlain) it is near, or part of, the terminal screw board, and is a red, green or purple square button with a green, amber or purple indicator light. Press this learn button momentarily. The indicator light will turn on and blink if Genie or otherwise stay lit. For Genie systems, go back to the in-car transmitter button you programmed and press this button 3 or 4 times, or until the door starts moving. This should set your in-car transmitter to your garage door opener. For Liftmaster, Sears, or Linear Megacode press and hold the in-car button you programmed until the garage opener light flashes. Your in-car is now programmed to operate your door.

How to program the garage door opener

Hold down the 2 outer buttons until the red light flashes (20-30 seconds) and release.
Select one of the 3 buttons you want to program and press that button.
Hold the handheld transmitter 1-2 inches from the visor transmitter.
Using 2 hands, press and hold the button on the handheld remote and the visor remote at the same time.
Continue to hold both buttons until the red light on the universal transmitter flashes first slowly then rapidly.
Release both buttons when the rapid flashing begins.
The transmitter is now programmed.
Note that if the remote doesn't open the garage door, your opener may have a "rolling code" or "code protected " feature.
If your opener has a rolling code feature then you will have to train the opener to accept the visor transmitter. See the owners manual for the opener.
I hope this helps you out. I do not have this feature in my car, I took the instructions from a ford manual. The manual also gives a phone number to call if you have problems 1-800-355-3515 (Homelink). I don't know if this number is still good or not. It can't hurt to try it out. Good Luck!

Quantum 3213. the door opener opens neighbors and visa versa

You can follow these instructions to change the code of yours. Might work for you.

NOTE: You must change the transmitter's code before programming the transmitter to the motor head unit.
The following steps describe the process to change a Quantum™ and Classicdrive™ security code.
This process only works fro transmitters with a GREEN LED and a "U" in their model number, such as "02-3047 2B U" or "02-3047 2B UH".
Changing the Transmitter Code
1. Press and hold the button on the transmitter that you want to change. The GREEN LED will flash once and then turn off.
2. Continue to hold the button until the GREEN LED begins to flash (approx. 10 seconds).
3. When the GREEN LED flashes, immediately release the button and then immediately press and hold the same button again. The GREEN LED will now come on steady.
4. Continue to hold the button until the GREEN LED begins to flash (approx. 5 seconds).
5. When the GREEN LED flashes, immediately release the button.
6. The code for this button has now been changed to a new randomly generated code. Do not push the button again until instructed in "Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit".
7. You must now re-program this transmitter to the motor head unit. See "Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit".
Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit
1. Press the PROGRAM button located on the garage door motor head unit once. The PROGRAM STATUS light on the motor head unit will turn on and remain lit for one minute, indicating that it is ready to learn the Transmitter code.
2. Press the same button on transmitter as you did in "Changing Transmitter's Code" above. The PROGRAM STATUS light will turn off indicating a successful learn.
3. Press the same button on the Transmitter once more to operate the door.
4. If you are unsuccessful in programming the transmitter to the motor head unit of if the button does not operate the door or if you wish to program another button to operate a different door, you must change the transmitter's code.
Battery
If the LED does not turn on when button is pressed, replace battery.

Program 2004 mercury mountainer garage opener

Verify the hand-held transmitter is operative.
Prepare for programming the universal transmitter by erasing all three channels (hold down the two outside buttons until the red light begins to flash [20-30 seconds]). Release both buttons.
Select one of the three universal transmitter channels to be programmed by pressing the desired button
Hold the end of the hand-held transmitter 25-51 mm (1-2 in) from the front surface of the universal transmitter so that the red light can still be seen
Use both hands to press the hand-held transmitter button and the desired button on the universal transmitter. Do not release either button.

If the hand-held transmitter appears to program the universal transmitter but does not open the garage door, the garage door opener may have a code protected or rolling code feature.
To operate, simply press the appropriate button on the universal transmitter. The red light is on while the signal is being transmitted.
IF THE GARAGE OPENER HAS ROLLING CODES---
program as above then------
Train the garage door opener receiver to recognize the universal transmitter.
Remove the cover panel from the garage door opener receiver.
Locate the training button on the garage door opener receiver. Location and color of the button may vary by garage door opener manufacturer. Refer to the garage door opener instruction manual or owner literature.
Press the training button on the garage door opener receiver for 1-2 seconds.
Press the programmed universal transmitter button for as long as the universal transmitter red light flashes (1-2 seconds). Release the button and re-press the button to confirm that the universal transmitter is trained to the receiver.
