Loperimide treats diarrhea. It is also called Imodium. Some people take it for a short time to treat diarrhea due to temporary bowel problems. It can also be taken longer term to treat bowel problems that cause diarrhea, like irritable bowel syndrome.
Loperimide is related chemically to morphine. Morphine also causes slowing of the bowels. If normal people are taking too much morphine (like opioid *******) they will have lots of problems with constipation. Since Loperimide can be puchased without a prescription, some people are buying it to take for their opioid addiction. The Federal **** Administration (FDA) is putting more regulations on Loperimide to stop the inappropriate use of this medication.

I have chronic allergies or sinus problems and no otc meds seem to help. what type of doctor should I visit???

You should have a primary doctor that you see for basic things like physicals. That doctor would recommend who you might see based on your physical condition and history. If you don't have a primary doctor, see an ear, nose and throat doctor. They may then send you to an allergist.
