The paper bail is broken on the right side. I can repair it if I could get the top cover off of the machine so that I could get to the right side arm.
If I remember right you almost have to break it to get it off it does have two or four screws hat have to be removed. Then you must pry the cover there are plastic tabs holding the cover on. Good luck I have not worked on one of these in years. If I have the typewriter in front of me I’m sure I could do it in no time but I do not.

move the printhead to where you want the L MAR set then hit the L MAR button, if you want to move to the left of where the L MAR is set, go to the L MAR by backspacing or the return key, hit the MAR REL button and backspace to where you want the mar set and hit L MAR. the right margin works the same way

Move the carrier to the desired position for the new left or right margin using "backspace" or "space"
To move beyond the position of a current margin, first position the carrier on the margin and press "alt +m rel"
When the carrier is on the desired position, press "alt + l mar" (if you are setting the left margin), or "alt + r mar" (if you are setting the right margin.)
The minimim distance between the left and right margins is two inches

Small projection under lid has bent or broken. Wedge something in the hole to operate micro-switch. If not effective the maybe micro-switch has moved or is faulty. Short out the wires to micro-switch in that case.
