2003 Hyundai Tiburon 2.7L MFI DOHC 6cyl

Inspection
Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.
Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the engine splash shield.
  3. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.
  4. Remove the drive belt from the alternator.
  5. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
  6. Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.
To install:
  1. Install the drive belt to the accessory drive pulley.
  2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
  3. Install the drive belt to the alternator.
  4. Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
  5. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner
  6. Install the engine splash shield.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

SOURCE: oil change, 2003 tiburon v6

Read all beffore starting. get all you need and get prepare beffore starting so you wont say any big word. Maybe have some safety glasses and never put youself on the way the oil would go out.
Buy yourself a 4.4L of new 10W30 motor oil, a oil filter, a little bucket of about 8" high and 24" round set of ratchett finaly some towel (for cleaning your tools and your hands if oiled by the old oil). Wait the motor to be cold. If you can, jack it a little bit just for you to be more comfortable under it. Better if you have ramp to put the front of the car on it and dont forget to put some safety like small candel and a tire stpper with the hand-brake on.
Go under the car, locate the oil pan and it's pug. Get the good size key or rattchet for the plug. Put you bucket under the plug, in line of the oil comming out, about 8 inches from the plug. Now unscrew the plug.... it will be a bit dirty and replace the buckey in line with the dirty oil if needed. When empty (about 10 minutes) get the oil cap on top of the motor out, go back under the car put the oil pan plug back (don't forget the washer and don't over tite it) , unscrew the old oil filter (watch for oil comming out from it also). With your finger, put some old oil on the rubber ring of the new oilf fliter and screw it in place of the old one "by hand", don't turn too hard, about half turn after the rubber touched the motor. Put the new oil in (where the oil cap on top-front of the motor was).. all the 4.4L. (watch for not putting oil all over, it will smell as hell when driving until it will all burn). Put the oil cap on. Recheck the filter, the oil pan plug and the oil cap. If all ok, Start the motor for 5 minutes but stay parked. Check the sound of the motor, it should go nicely ( by the way, get a full memory of this nice sound, it could alert you of somehting wrong if it dose not sound like this one day). Get you tools and the bucket from under the car, recheck the oil filter and the oil pan plug. If no oil is dripping, stop the car, get it down, get all things clear and clean. You can put the old oil in the can where was the new one beffore the job and get it back to your garage so they recycle it. The filter is gooing to the garbage. That's it. If not in a hurry and take your time with some good music and a coffee, you can do it in 20-45 minutes.

SOURCE: need timing belt diagram for

The timing belt diagrams are listed in detail with figures and procedure to remove them.

REPLACING TIMING BELT ON A 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON 2.7L V6

1. Remove passenger side headlight via the 3 10mm screws holding it in place and disconnect the turn signal and main harness

2. Remove passenger side tire

3. Remove the splash guard via 2 10mm screws at the top of the guard

4. Remove the 2 17mm bolts and 2 17mm nuts from motor mount bar

5. You may have to separate the mount bar from the motor via either a chisel or flathead screwdriver and a hammer ( support engine via a jack and a piece of plywood under oil pan )

6. Use a 3/8 ratchet ( or a long breaker bar would work better ) to remove the serpentine belt ( remember the route ). Disconnect the power steering hose from the pump and secure back with a zip tie. Remove the power steering pulley with a pry bar and 19mm socket.

tinualbinale_2.gif
7. Hand turn the crankshaft via a 22mm socket to TDC ( top dead center, marked on lower timing belt cover )

8. Remove the serpentine belt tensioner via 2 12mm bolts on each side

9. Remove the upper timing belt cover via 7 10mm screws

10. Remove crankshaft pulley ( 22mm ) with an air impact gun ( an electric one will work too )

11. Remove lower timing belt cover via 4 more 10mm screws

tinualbinale_3.gif

12. Remove the motor mount from the block via 3 14mm bolts and 2 12mm bolts ( there is a 12mm holding the oil dipstick bracket towards the front of the car )

13. Remove the auto tensioner via 2 12mm bolts

tinualbinale_4.gif

14. Remove the timing belt
tinualbinale_5.gif

15. Make sure your timing markings are correct...

There is one marking on each cam gear and on the heads ( head markings are small, look closely...try wiping the edge of the head down with a rag and some brake cleaner to bring it out more ) They are also pictured in last pic.

When the crankshaft is in the TDC position, the cam gear markings should both line up at the same time with the head markings

Adjust if necessary, use a 17mm socket to turn cam gears to correct position

16. Install new timing belt ( as you install it, make sure to keep a little tension on the belt as you route it )

17. Install new auto tensioner and pull pin

18. Install just the lower timing belt cover

19. Install the crankshaft pulley

20. Hand turn the crankshaft atleast 5 times to verify the timing markings are lining up properly ( all should line up at the same time when the crankshaft pulley mark is in the TDC position )

21. Remove crankshaft pulley

22. Remove lower timing belt cover

23. Reverse steps 12 - 1

2003 Tiburon GT, RPM's drop way down and idles rough at stop's?

More maintenance history needed. Oil changed regularly, timing belt replaced at 60 K miles, Engine air filter & intake air hose inspection?
Causes of the problem you describe are many. Recommend you have a technician check your throttle position sensor for any bad spots in the potentiometer... most likely cause when there is NO Check Engine light.
