On many models, you press "Stop / Reset" three times.
A hard reset may help: Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

My problem was that the door opening mechanism on my inverter 1300 W was broken, and the door could not be opened. After searching in vain on the internet I couldn't find an answer and numerous people appear to have the same problem.
There were 3 small screws at the front top that hold the grill in place, take them off. Then there are two screws above the readout, take these two out. The whole front display with all the buttoms now comes off if you slide it up, remembering all the wires are still attached. On mine the cheap plastic door mechanism simply broke. It is about 3 inches by 2 inches and solid black plastic, it is held in place by two small posts on either side that fit into a recessed hole. The part number is stamped on this piece, cost me $3 at Sears to get a new part, and since they had it in stock I'm assuming it's a common problem. Simply put the new black plastic piece on, it slides in and seems loose but works, don't try and bend the plastic. The lever on it that swings up and hits the door latch has to slide in then put the whole control panel back in, slide it down and do up the screws. You could probably take off the wires to get a better look but I had enough slack to fix it by leaving the wires in. Way easier and cheaper to fix this way as opposed to paying for it and having to unscrew it from the cupboards. Too bad I wasted 4 hours just trying to find a solution, hence this post.
Stop/reset button 3 times will unlock and start button 3 times will lock.
Press start 3 times to lock and 3 times to unlock...hope that helps

I have a panasonic microwave called "The Genius". When I plug it in it says; "Welcome refer to owners manual" then displays a colon (:). None of the buttons on the microwave work, but the Start button and the Stop/Reset button both beep when pressed. I can't figure out if something is wrong with the microwave, or if it is somehow locked or something.
