Hi, if your ddl-555 sewing machine the needle doesn't grab the string from the top and bottom; and it can't sew the fabric. Do you know what to do/

Juki DDL 555-4 due to broken needle the bobbin shuttle is now stuck. It wont move at all, any suggestions?

  • Shirley Neibarger Aug 25, 2017

I usually try to take off the throat plate, and the feed dogs, put nine or ten drops of oil on the shuttle and try to jiggle my handwheel until it lets go. Sometimes it isn't the needle piece that is stuck in the race but maybe the needle caused the moving knife blade or the stationary blade or the lasso, that holds the thread when it is cut, to break and wedge a piece into your shuttle. Once your needle plate and feed dogs are off, you can see what is happening and repair it.

Try to getnly move teh hand wheel forward and backward a little at a time. You should be able to losen it taht way.

You may have thread stcuk ibehind the bobbin case area. You need to carefully pull out all the strands and make sure ti is all clean. Then you should be in business again. This is a common problem.

  • Shirley Neibarger Apr 03, 2016

Take your needle plate off and see if there is a broken cutting blade, broken needle, or some other small metal piece that you can get out with tweezers and put a drop of oil in the race where the bobbin case fastens in. Turn the motor off and see if you can turn the hand wheel towards you.

My wife broke several needles on her Juki DDL 555 machine and I need to know how to adjust the timing as she put a new needle in and the point was damaged

First thing to check is if you've got the right needle system: http://partsbooks.sewingmachine.com/Instructions/Juki/Industrial/DDL-5550%20&%205530%20Instruction%20Manual.pdf and that the needle is correctly oriented... the scarf has to be precisely set.
The next things I'd check are the stitch cycle -- hand crank the machine through the normal stitch cycle and see what's hitting. Then fix that. I've got my suspicions this may be a needle bar height adjustment. Don't thread up for this test... misthreading can also cause the needle to hit something and break, so start with the fewest possible variables first.

Juki Sewing machine DDL-555. After 4-5 hours use feed not moving

Sounds like as the machine builds up friction from extended use, some vital part is lacking lubrication and is seizing up. A good service person will remove ALL of the covers and thoroughly air clean and oil every moving part. Sometimes these dry points are hard to find and patience is required.

You can get a sewing machine oiler with a long applicator and put a drop of oil on anything that moves, but over oiling can be messy.
