There is a release you need to push in. See this video
It's a fairly common problem with this mower, you press the latch button and the battery refuses to budge. But thankfully the fix is easy enough to implement. You may think the catch is released all the way when you press the button...it’s not. While holding the release button, try pushing down the battery with your other hand…not much force needed. When you feel a slight movement, press the release button a little harder, you will hear a louder click, pull the battery out.
Testimonial: "I did this over and over and over and it did not work. No click, nothing. A friend of mine took a mini pry bar and was able to pull it out. It was stuck in there really, really good. So the next time I have this problem I will use that to get it out."

Pull the spark plug out and give it a pull. It should pull VERY easily. You could have a vapor lock inside the cylinder and this will clear it. If it still doesn't pull easily with the plug removed then you've probably either bent the crank shaft or seized the engine, due to a lack of oil in it. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
