My hp elite book . the key board just blinks and the screen never comes on

page 11, F11 is the hot key key for brightness UP.

the manuals for cheap HP are near toy grade, sad to see.
all-in-one = PC = cheap

it came with windows 8, did you upgrade to 10 and wreck all the drivers, as will be the case if done?

sounds like the black screen of death

a lot of dv hp laptop have this problem the gpu has to reflowed are your keys also blinking. if they are count the number of blinks it will point to problem

Hold the CTRL key, and ALT key down, and tap on the Right arrow key, until the screen is where you want it.

i have the same issue, exact same unit MY BOOK ELITE WD 500G ..
FYI: if this doesnt work, it is a power module (inside the black box, MY BOOK ELITE) needs to be replaced.

UNPLUG both cables from MY BOOK ELITE WD - restart your computer

- with respect to the MY BOOK ELITE WD , make sure the power cord is plugged into AC outlet wall only, and the other end of the USB into computer only -- but disconnect both from the MY BOOK WD ELITE and leave unplugged for 20 minutes .

after 20 minutes have elapsed, plug the USB cable only for 1 minute , into MY BOOK ELITE WD. Then plug the power cord into the MY BOOK WD Elite. see if it works

if this doesn't work, let the drive sit for 24-48 hours.. then repeat above instructions -- this is how i got mine to work again. FYI: To avoid this issue, i just leave the unit plugged in , while computer is running

BUT -- be aware... i use UPS (Uninterruptable power supply) to avoid power failures throughout the house. So , i suggest , if you want to leave the computer running, use a power supply to run the computer if the AC power fails..

There should be a Fn button to adjust this promblem. Normally the f9 and f10 key, F9 for down, and f10 for up on brightness. Press your FN key which is located between your left ctrl and alt keys with the f9 or f10 for brightness adjusment. If not you may need windows to do this by clicking your battery icon once until you get a small screen saying power balance, below you can see a link to saying adjust screen brightness. This is for vista and window7.

Try taking out the battery and waiting 5 minutes and then boot back up.
If it locks up again try to see at which point it is locking up.

First you need to determine how many blinks you are getting when you try to power on the laptop.
Check the blinking codes below and reason behind that for HP Compaq laptops

Blinking battery power LED Battery Insufficient charge on the battery
Blink: 1 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - CPU CPU not functional
Blink: 2 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS corruption failure
Blink: 3 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Memory Module error not functional
Blink: 4 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - Graphics Graphics controller not functional
Blink: 5 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - System board General system board failure
Blink: 6 - Caps Lock/Num Lock - BIOS BIOS authentication failure

Plz get back so I can suggest you the steps to resolve the issue.

do you have a dial up modem installed in the system's pci slot? try removing it and see if it posts then. if it still doesn't post (show bios screen) then try using a known good stick of ram. if it still doesn't display then chances are its the power supply.
