This unit is too new to have a defrost timer. The defrost control is integraed into this board on this model.

Setting it to 5 is what the manufacturer recommends. If you set it to 1 and the frig is still not cold, then you probably have a faulty cold control (thermostat)

Inside the fresh food compartment look for an opening that will allow you to turn the defrost timer clockwise slowly. When you hear it click the refrigerator should go into defrost. If the timer is bad it will need replaced. Let me know. Below is a photo of timer.

Hi Danda,

About 98% of the time on a Whirlpool built Kenmore such as yours the problem with automatic defrosting is the "defrost timer". It's super easy to repair. You can get one from Sears, a local appliance parts retailer or just about anywhere online (just plug this part number---> 482493 <--- into a search engine and price shop)

Here's a diagram I made. It details the repair. Number 4 says "ADC", don't worry. There are two types of defrost timers one is an ADC and another is yours. They both follow the same repair procedure, OK?

Here's a full size diagram of your machine. You'll see that there is no difference other than the type of defrost timer.

NOTE---> UNPLUG YOUR FRIDGE BEFORE DOING THIS REPAIR!!! Otherwise, you'll look like this permanently...

There ya go, Danda! Remember to rate this solution as "FixYa" WillYa?

Kenmore coldspot model 106 9445781 the icemaker motor makes loud noise. Sounds like its under a heavy load.

Suggest you take the ice maker out and defrost it. You propably have ice crystal buildup and causing it to labor harder.

Kenmore coldspot not making ice, and not cooling in the bottom

Your refrigerator is frosted up. Remove the inside panel of your freezer. Defrost the ice out of the coils and check the heater and bi-metal. If both are good then your defrost timer is bad. If one is bad replace and you have it fixed. Good luck.
